Which test circuit did Top Gear take the 80's Jag XJS (may), BMW 635 (hamster) and Mitsi Starion (Clarkson I) around which was a big banked oval where you could take your hands off the wheel at the top and would steer around for you??? They did it specifically for a top speed run which massively broke the gold jag.

***EDIT*** - Was Millbrook Proving Ground and it's limited to 150mph :(

The runway at Groom Lake (Area51/Dreamland) is reputed to be over 20000ft but some think it is in the USA

Actually, it doesn't exist....

RAF Manston is now disused (well, technically currently used for operation stack but meh) but it's only 1.7 miles long.

There's always a trip to Europe - kazakahstan sports a 2.6 miles runway and last time I checked they're short of cash over there ;)

Manston (Kent International) airport has a straight flat dual carriage way that parallels the length of it, sadly with a roundabout at either end.

Yes I'm down that road at least once a month. At night it's very good. Road condition is excellent - billiard table smooth and as straight as a redneck Texan.

Looks like this place will be ok. VW's Ehra-Lessien Proving Ground perhaps if I promise not to mention emissions they may let me have a go. Could also offer them a couple of quid might hike their share price !!!!!!

197mph though the beams at Brunters a few years back at a VMAX is the fastest genuine speed i've driven.

Got a feeling the current steed would quite easily crack 200mph, but suffering the same issues as the RS's in that i'd need a long enough stretch of tarmac & ideally a safe long stretch of tarmac to crack the 200.

Both trips onto the Continent have not featured any Autobahns so that chance has eluded me. Maybe next year.

Does anyone know someone who works at Brize Norton? A few years back they had a charity day where loads of bikers and cars where allowed to go on site and do 1/4 mile times, then continue up to the main runway and wait for clearance to go. It was still being used throughout the day and when you got the ok you went out in little groups.

I managed 165 in the wet (in a previous car)..... massive spray behind the cars so couldn't see much

Don't know how long the runway is though.
