Hi Vangelis, vangelis wrote:Another bump for such great thread ...
I'm about to go for a C6 in few days and tiers seems need to be replaced. It has the OEMs Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT and when i phoned the Dunlop dealer in Dubai they told me that GTs not in stock and it does not even come!! and they have the replacement tires which same specs and half the cost of the GTs which is Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT. Anyone have them or experienced them before to provide a feedback and how to compare them with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric and Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

I had the dunlops as oem tyre. Changed to the MPSS- way better grip in dry and ok in wet.
Have not tried the GEF1 Assymetric yet.
cheers,
john

Re: New Tyres?....ideas?
My C5 came with Dunlop GT's on the front and I replaced them with GEF1 AS2's and the dry grip is better (not hugely but definitely noticeable) whilst the wet grip of the AS2's is light years ahead of the Dunlops. From reading Johns reply above it looks like they're almost opposites for the Michelins so for the UK I'd consider the GY's and for Dubai I'd go with the MPSS - MPSS best dry & OK wet vs GYF1's best wet & OK dry.

Re: New Tyres?....ideas?
Thanks for the info, when I spoke to Michellen dealer over here, I found only one tyer with the size 275/35 R20 but the load & speed index was (ZR). I googled this and found out that Z for speed rating means up to 150+ miles/h or 240+ km/h and I could not find the R load rating what is the max weight load. Are you guys buying a specific model which is matching the (102) Y speed/ load index or above mentioned will fit for RS6 use!!
Re: New Tyres?....ideas?
I bought specific load matched AS2's rated at 96Y for the C5.
On the speed rating I think there can be a little confusion. The letters show that they are safe "upto" a certain speed (so Y = safe upto 186mph) EXCEPT for ZR's which are specially made tyres that are rated at any speed "over" not "upto" 150mph so 180, 200 or even 250mph+ is fine i.e the Veyrons tyres are ZR's.
Hope that helps.

Re: New Tyres?....ideas?
Just to be clear - all tyres have a maximum speed and not all ZR tyres can run the same. It's a catch all group that means the tyre is rated at a figure above the original normal ratings for tyres (as car performance got faster, more categories were added - ZR rating came before Y and W ratings).IanH755 wrote:I bought specific load matched AS2's rated at 96Y for the C5.

As such you need to check with the manufacturer as I guarantee not all ZR tyres will run to 250mph.
For example not all ZR tyres will meet the Y spec so would be unsafe at 186mph.. hell there are no guarantees that a ZR tyre will meet even W rating.
Re: New Tyres?....ideas?
Regarding the Goodyear f1's - had enough time to play with them and I can honestly say they are one if the best tyres I've used. Wet handling is stunning - there's a roundabout near me that always unsettled the pirellis and trip the traction control... But the GY's just hang on with no drama.
In the few dry days we've had I had a play and like any decent tyre you have to get them warm to appreciate them but they work well even if stone cold. They certainly can give a track tyre a run over most scenarios and for a road car is say they'd leave them standing.
