UPDATE

They sales director has called, not someone have I dealt with - He says he has spoken to Audi and is CONVINCED the car is HDD nav with SD slots etc.

He asked me to go and check, I'm at work but unless I am being very stupid I've told him it absolutely doesn't have the above. I looked for SD slots in the glove box yesterday and unless they are very well hidden, don't exist.

Also in the book is a front loading unit with "DVD Navigation" written on it!

Having told him this he was, to be fair, accepting of their error. I've said I will treble check tonight and report back tomorrow. Everyone is aware including the Dealer principle.

So we shall see!

Thanks again.

PS Can someone confirm - Can a car have HDD/SD slots etc and still be 2G? Or is that a contradiction?

No.

Glad the DP has it on his table, that'll make things move quicker beneath him.

Not if my experience is anything to go by; in fact getting Audi UK and the parent company MD involved made no difference either :audibash:

Im constantly amazed how little dealers seem to know about the spec of the used cars they retail; I only found out that my car came with keyless entry and go when I picked it up. At least mine was a pleasant surprise.

Aren't the 2G and 3G console controls different?

Well, yes, there are degrees of incompetence. I've had a big run in with my local VW dealer, the DP was an utter tosser and the service manager wasn't much better. However writing to Chris Craft did improves things.

The bottom line is that when, it comes to the crunch, and VW UK admitted as much, there's bugger all they can do about the franchisee unless they have failed to meet their contractual obligations.

If i was you i would send it back. As MNK says, it's misrepresentation of good act. You have got 14 days to hand back the car, no questions asked as long as you can show that you have been sold it incorrectly. I very much doubt that they will replace the 2g for the 3g. I did enquiry of the cost once and was told its around £4k due to re wiring of the car.

On the other hand

If they do take it back and find you a rs6 with 3g but not as good spec or colour as the one you currently have, will you be happy? It all depends how much you really want 3g and how much you will use it. Ive got 2g with DAB, TV etc and that fine by me in a high spec car.
If i want more music i plug in my i touch. Just remember there are only 5000 of these cars around so the selection available will not be massive and once you start done this road, the car you have got will be gone.

5000!!!!

I reckon you have a pretty good chance of finding a replacement with that number floating about.

I think I have convinced him that I know what's what, and this car simply does not have something I was told it did at point of purchase. He essentially conceded defeat and asked me just to confirm 100% before we 'can sort this out for you'. It's the principle that concerns me. I don't want to hand the car back, because as you say SFA Avants have the 3G anyway, mine has solar roof s/c doors/ advanced park/keyless etc, I love the alcantara seats etc and as such may certainly sacrifice something else even if they found me another one.

However, that shouldn't mean they are not obliged to offer me something as compensation. 3G retrofit perhaps that I'd stipulate CraigyB did, (unlikely!) or some other form of renumeration. At the very least it might buck their ideas up and make them be a little more considered in future, and perhaps have a bit more interest in the product they profess to know about. Perhaps a year or 2's further Mondial cover would do the trick.

If they do retrofit it at least it will be covered by warranty.

On second thoughts Mondial dont cover sat nav, phone prep etc do they?

Mine was similar although I didn't confirm in writing like you did. When I read the spec it claimed HDD Navigation with SD cards, however when I test drove the car it was apparent it only had standard 2G. Trouble is everything else was right with the car, colour, advanced key, advanced parking, TV, twin pane glass etc. I knew if I walked away from it I would struggle to find an Avant with 3G at anywhere near the price so I compromised. It bugs me a little but I've decided to enjoy the car for what it is and if I'm still bother in a couple of years time then I will trade in for a 2010 spec one.

Sounds like you have most of what you want in the car so far and you will be risking other options to force them to take the car back, which you are fully within your rights to do. I would for compensation of some kind like 2 years extended warranty on top of the year you probably already have plus bodywork/interior/alloys protection and insurance. That way the car is fully converted for any fault or damage and it hasn't cost you anything.

I agree though that the dealers need to get better with their spec knowledge, it is pretty poor. The lack of detailed knowledge when I was looking at mine was shocking. The sales guy didn't know that the advanced key unlocked the doors, didn't know it had TV function, didn't know it had a Milltek system fitted.....

Yup agree completely. I actually didn't get the info in writing to be clever, I just wanted them to be able to go away and take the time to send me the correct info. Which they failed to do.

Twice.

I've asked Craigyb to let me know what's possible in terms of retrofit and how much, so at least I know when I speak to them tomorrow.

Be interested in the answer on the 3G retrofit, didn't think it was possible to be honest.
