I'm having it inspected but wondering if it's known to anyone here?

Any views appreciated or via pm.

Thanks
So how did the inspection go?

Personally i wouldnt want one that high in premium... age is what ruins these cars not millage.

Its very low on the options list too, spending that amount of cash i'd want every optional extra, why not go and buy my old red one and get the gearbox rebuilt! that had every option available, is already mapped and has the 3g MMi.
Its up for 28k at Junction 17 cars.

spend about 5-6k on a gearbox build and coolant pipes etc (although they werent actually rotten but if its out mays well)

No but seriously jokes aside, it is a lot of money and as i said the engines in thse are solid, theres folks running well over 100k miles its the rest of the car due to age that suffers.
You want one off the forum really, one thats been looked after serviced and had all the bits done, mine would have been a peach to sell on but i woulndt want to sell it to anyone with a whining gearbox.

I went and saw the car at TH Boler - it was a bit tatty in places & bodywork looked like it had been driven through a hedge. Nothing a good buff/Polish wouldn't sort. It also didn't have full Audi service history as advertised and with 5 owners I decided to walk away.
I went and saw that one and was very disappointed for the price. Was expecting to see a mint one.
Paint I thought was in dreadful condition, Had cheap non OE tyres, tpms wasn't working and had no signal from any wheel (sensors all thrown away at change??). Boot lid did not seem to rise all the way then had mind of its own. Engbay plastics had screw driver marks and the closing panel above the rads was loose when I got there it pulled off and one of the mouniting lugs was snapped off.

May have been low milage but if it spent it's life in London doing cold starts... just didn't add up to me either! Didn't even get as far as looking underneath.

On another note just joined the forum and on the lookout for a c6! Hello all!

Sepang Blue or Daytona grey. Black leather interior with keyless entry and reversing camera.

Other than that just want a solid car! Been lurking for a couple of months. Need to wait till late January/Feb anyways after I have moved house.
I'll stop thread jacking now!

Thanks for the advice guys. In the end decided not to go for it.

The RS technician said it's a solid example - so good news there. But; there's an oil leak on the back of the engine and the coolant lines are corroded - so at some point (likely sooner given the oil leak) it'll need the engine dropping or a substantial visit to unit20/other.

As you also said it immediately needs new plugs & the major service within 6 months. There's a fault code coming back from the levelling system.

All kind of expected in a way but at this price point I'd want the majority to be sorted...

At some point it'll make an awesome purchase for someone - just not me on this occasion.

Cheers

Hmm. Very frustrating that the cars for top money don't seem to be actually having all their issues sorted!

I am sure the correct one will turn up. Did the dealer not offer to have all these issues rectified?

Sadly most dealers don't have the depth of knowledge that you find on somewhere like here, so even if they spot the "leak" the vast majority won't know exactly what it is and how much it costs to sort so you'll get the "well, it's just a spot of oil from when we topped it up earlier sir" if the buyer actually notices it.

Give me and Ian a knock when you start looking Jules, we've had ours in bits and i've certainly spent a lot of time around the areas that usually give trouble.

Coolant lines
Oil pump leak (seal)
DRC pipe rubbing through or shock failure on higher millage cars
Few other odds and sods but those are the bulk of the put offs...

You also want to make sure if your buying one with average miles that the gearbox oil has been changed as my first black RS6 on 70k had HORRIFIC gear changes due to a badly treated and un-serviced gearbox.
You can change the fluid yourself very easily with a pump and a ramp or pay around £400 at a specialist to have it done, but that is one thing i would recommend having done on any fresh purchase.
I would also strive to find a 3G mmi model as the difference really is noticeable making the transition myself i can tell you that the 3G is just much much better.
