Tom - the GTR is a nice choice, it's lighter and the fact that it's a V6 means it should be lighter on the pockets too when refuelling. My friend has one and is part of a forum that hold regular tours mainly down in London from what I remember.

Just had a look at your old car on the Auto Trader link...looks fantastic and that will fly out the door. The photo of the engine looks like someone has done a 'money shot' all over it though? Image
As for the GTR, what a replacement. Seriously legendary cars, how are you finding the build quality and refinement compared to the RS? A mate of mine test drive one but turned it down as it was too hardcore for daily use (went for a new M5 instead).
Hey mate i'll still be sticking around here as i dont like the GTR owners page, i feel this is much more my home! i'll be back in an RS but i just need to scratch the GTR itch before prices hike anymore, and with the noises on mine after spending 2 and a half grand on the RS really made me decide to get rid.

Its a shame because the GTR is nowhere near as relentless as the RS was, once your into 5th 6th it slows off and just isnt as savage as the RS used to be, but overall it feels much more alive and the noise is (to me) much nicer, gear changes happen in 0.15 seconds and the launch control is face ripping, i didnt know i could move my organs that far back to the rear of my body.
As far as build quality goes i actually find it quite impressive, the cars coming on 6yrs old now and there is very little cabin wear and tear, a few little scratches on the inner door handle arms and things from someone wearing a ring, and the plastics used certainly feel cheap, but when you think the car was 60k BRAND NEW compared to the RS6's near 100k tag as a direct comparison i find it a lot lesser in some respects but the fact it has bluetooth streaming, USB, HDD for music, Nav with TMC and speed camera detection is light years ahead of the Audi for the same year.

The gearbox is a dog round town especially when cold, i mean its not brutal but you can tell its not happy driving about town, it moans and groans and makes noises.
On the motorway the cabin is extremely comfy, i returned a 31-33mpg figure at 75mph driving home on Saturday, vs my 19mpg in the RS6 for the same trip which i was over the moon with.
i didnt get back ache and the seats/driving position was very friendly on my legs/arms/back.

Driving fun is also much better than the RS, but if the two were parked on my drive and i just wanted to drive in comfort i'd pick the RS6, if i wanted to go on a long journey i'd take either and if i wanted to do some track days i'd pick the GTR.
The cross over considering what it is isnt too bad, you could use it as a daily and not be dissapointed but i think if you did that you'd soon get bored, there's folk running them well over 100k miles now using them as dailys for 7+ years, very little failiure points barring the GR6 gearbox which is a bit of weak point once the torque is turned up especially if launching the car.
Aftermarket parts are EXPENSIVE and i feel this is a bit overly taxed just because its a "GTR" but then equally servicing costs and general maintence is very affordable and with no reason to be dropping the engine and no obvious oil leak or common faults its a bit more reliable in its old age.

Personally to wrap things up, i love the thing its a technological master piece, and it makes you feel like your at one with the car as a drivers car its epic!! and i've yet to see a track day.
But i miss the comfort and torque on the RS6 if i was dailying the car i'd have stuck with my 6, but as im now down to weekend occasional use, it made sense to scratch the itch now.
No regrets so far!

P.s (engine bay man mayo) - i steam cleaned it before i sold it along with a full machine polish and paint correction so god knows what they've done to it!

Yes mate thanks very much! it really is lighter on the pocket and the fact its done half the millage of the RS is a big help! even engine and gearbox removal can be done myself as there's guides all over on what to do, doesnt seem too bad!

First fail though!

Tracker enabled itself (even though its not been active for the last 5yrs) so it was stuck on my drive for the weekend, all running and fixed now but not something i wanted to deal with being honest!
But its all good!

Well isnt that absoutely stunning! and he's just done himself a 2017 edition? wow nearly 100k right? god i wish i had that amount of coins to sink into a motor and not care.
Unfortunately i dont so i'll have to make do with my 6yr old one.... saying that second hand prices remain very strong with the GTR even with higher millage's.
You wont be dissapointed buddy, its a very easy car to live with once the intial difference wears off, and if you like driving its far more focused then the RS6, and so far from doing research a lot more reliable too.
Get the circlips and caps done in the gearbox and it'll take upto 700bhp and 600-650 Ib/Ft just fine, if you wanna wind up the torque you need an uprated clutch and uprated first gear shaft.
Anything over 700bhp also requires an engine build (im lucky enough to have one already built and good for 900) so a nice set of turbo's next year along with a box build (i've already got clips and caps done) and i'll be aiming for about 830bhp and 800ibft and i think thats exactly where i will leave it :)

Hello! So i am the new owner of RS06 PPP!!!

I am brand new to rs6 ownership and brand new to this site! Go easy one me!

What. A. Car.

I bought it in December, and had 48 hours of the best motoring i've ever experienced! Unfortunately since then it has been with ZF having a gearbox rebuild as it decided to give up the ghost. Luckily the garage took it straight back and have been sorting it out for me free of charge and have even upgraded my warranty to the top spec they can give me for the inconvenience. Personally i think the timing of this has been very fortunate, as i'm getting a virtually brand new gearbox. I've bought a few cars off the guys at Junction 17 in Peterborough and they do look after me very well.

If there are any tips and tricks that you could tell me about the car that would be incredibly helpful, as i have planned a road trip down to Maranello in May and want the car absolutely spot on for trouble free motoring! although from the brief time i had it in my possession after purchasing, i am not too worried!

Hello! Good to see the cars gone somewhere good. Tom looked after that beast well.

FON

It's a great car I had one for about 18months before moving from the c6 to a b8 RS4.

Only advice is watch your license :) easy to get silly speeds.

I'm currently in Audi looking at a TTS for the wife!

FON & Welcome to the Forum.

Consider yourself very fortunate for having the car passed on by Tom who has been committed to keeping her well and thoroughly maintained to the highest standard, also the fact that you are getting a replacement gearbox is just perfect timing fitted free of charge, that'll save you a few squid.

Anyway, enjoy.

Well thats an interesting one! amazing news!

Its a shame about the gearbox, looks like i jumped at the right time! after spending a fortune one sorting it out im glad you have it sorted out, a new box and itll be great, i never had any gearbox problems mind. i serviced it every 3000 miles, its had a ginomrous list of new parts as im sure you've seen.
All new undertrays/arches etc

New aux rad and a few other things, its in gorgeous condition and a very high spec... i really miss the beast if im honest!

The Brakes are the best bit! those are not even 6 months old so enjoy! car did get some track abuse but i looked after her, she's had new plugs and diff oil recently too.
