I think you'd argue a good case that the oil seal for example Isn't related to a remap. Fairly sure you'd struggle with a claim on a gearbox though on a car running 1100+nm...chris_m wrote:Surely it is detectable? What does the warranty actually cover? Yeah, I just thought they would have voided the warranty regardless. Anything remotely insurance orientated i am always a bit reserved. Just pray for the oil seal to start leaking so your warranty is worth whole lol.RossDagley wrote:I think you'd argue a good case that the oil seal for example Isn't related to a remap. Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
I am also currently in the position of purchasing an Audi extended warranty and collect my 'new'RS6 on Friday, I had been considering dropping the car off at unit 20 or MRC to squeeze a bit more power out of the V10, however if you check the eligibility criteria on the Audi extended warranty site it clearly states that the car must not be modified in any way from the manufacturers standard specification!
Instant get out clause for a £1500 warranty if the car has any mods..so I have a choice of either relatively risk free motoring for 12 months with an Audi extended warranty, or risk running it without a warranty and put the £1500 towards the engine mods at Mrc or unit 20 and pray nothing goes wrong.
If the mods were simply an ECU remap it could maybe worth running the risk, however cat by pass pipes and filters etc are going to be pretty obvious. Or simply a 2 minute test drive would soon reveal its running more than standard spec.

Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
So just get it remapped and then if something unrelated goes wrong, ask MRC to flash it back with a stock map? They'll charge an hours labour each 'end' - ie to flash stock then flash back to your map after warranty work.F15har wrote:I am also currently in the position of purchasing an Audi extended warranty and collect my 'new'RS6 on Friday, I had been considering dropping the car off at unit 20 or MRC to squeeze a bit more power out of the V10, however if you check the eligibility criteria on the Audi extended warranty site it clearly states that the car must not be modified in any way from the manufacturers standard specification!

Just don't get the downpipes etc done. The car still makes 720+hp with stock exhaust. Worth the warranty for an additional 20hp? Not really imo

Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
Great idea, except MRC are 5 hours away, and what do you do if the car requires work that makes it undriveable like a gearbox failure? Have it transported to Oxfordshire to be put back to standard then transported back up to go to the Audi dealer who is 12 miles away?
Seems like it's a clear cut decision of one option or the other, as in the event of a big claim I have no doubt they would do everything in their power to avoid paying out.

How about get another pair of ECUs with a stock map and keep those so you can swap it out? How about have it mapped by a tuner closer to you than MRC?
If the gearbox has sh1t itself because you're running 1000+ nm torque why would you expect Audi to warrant that? Whilst it's obvious that you don't want to pay for it when it breaks, why should Mondial pay when you've run the gearbox so far out of specification? What you seem to want here is to have your cake and to eat it.
The question I guess you need to ask yourself is "would I do this modification if I didn't have a warranty?" because that's what it's likely to boil down to. A headlight repair isn't a problem with a remap but I'll wager a stripped gearbox input shaft is

Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
I think you're missing the point, whatever is claimed for doesn't have to be related to whatever is modified as they could simply void the policy for any modification being present, as "not modified from manufacturers standard specifications" is a substantive declaration in the terms of eligibility for the warranty.
I considered several modified cars prior to settling for the car I'm collecting on Friday, and one of the cars I was considering had the MRC tune, but also had 10 months of the Audi extended warranty remaining; Which reading the Audi literature isn't worth a penny on a modified car..
Yes the local dealer may not bat an eyelid at routine servicing etc but warranty claims are not dealt with by the local dealer, they are approved or dismissed by VAG insurance services..
Yes I would really like to get the car running 700hp, but it doesn't seem it's worth doing whilst having just paid £1486 for an extended arrange with Audi.

Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
And yet many many people on the forum have put through successful warranty claims on modified cars...

Re: Audi warranty or 3rd party?
Now that's what I want to hear, as on paper it seems a simple no, as any modification legally invalidates the warranty.
I'm not being argumentative, I just don't want to spend £2k on mods to then find by doing so I've wasted £1500 on a warranty that's worthless because it's invalidated by the mods.

If you rock into an Audi dealership for a misty headlight I'm pretty sure they wont care it's been remapped. Many have done this exact warranty work for example. If you go in saying the prop seems to have fallen out, I'm sure they WILL care. So... only you can decide what you want to do. Personally? I'm modified and with an Extended Warranty as I say. I'll cross each bridge as and when

The only warranty item I really wanted was cover for wheel bearings and the oil seal - both of which I'm fairly sure they wont care about the remap as others before me have been in this situation and been fine.

Good luck either way

Do it. I cannot put into words how tame the standard car seems once you've ever experienced a mapped one. There's not even a comparison to be madeF15har wrote:Thanks for the input...seems like a remap is still on the table.
