C6 RS6 Full Size Spare Wheel - Complete
Re: C6 RS6 Full Size Spare Wheel - Complete
You could use any wheel tbh as long as the rolling radius is as close as possible to the original.

I am not asking if I can use it - I know I can. I just wonder if I can have full size spare with the plastic lid on it it the alloy will be 9" instead of 9,5" and tires 255 instead of 275...Golfather wrote:You could use any wheel tbh as long as the rolling radius is as close as possible to the original.
Re: C6 RS6 Full Size Spare Wheel - Complete
Hi,
Apologies for dragging up an old thread, however I didn't want to start a new topic for something that has been discussed previously.
I have a genuine 20" RS 6 spare alloy wheel that I just had a new spec tyre fitted on - a Dunlop SportMaxx GT SP 275/35 R20 102Y XL (RO1).
I took the valve out so that the tyre is fully deflated, and when trying to put the wheel in the spare wheel well, it is a very tight fit. The tread of the tyre catches on the plastic trim of the boot floor (see photos attached). I could probably crush the tyre with my hands and I think that it may just go in, however if I do that then I very much doubt that I will get it out!
Does anyone who has a spare wheel use a new tyre or would a part worn be better? Or are the people that have spares using 275/30R20 tyres?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated,
Thanks

I couldn't fit one of my wheels when I tried it so hunted around for a space saver that would suit the car and would fit in the well. Eventually found one (after a couple of false leads) which has turned out to be an option for the A6 Allroad. It's 20" and has a 195/50 folding tyre. Fits over the front brakes no problem but I'll always use it on the back.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I remember you mentioning the Allroad steel spare wheel a while ago on your other thread. That's handy that it fits over the front brakes, but I agree with you that it would be better on the rear of the car.Jim Haseltine wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 1:13 pmI couldn't fit one of my wheels when I tried it so hunted around for a space saver that would suit the car and would fit in the well. I shall buy one of them when I find one online.
As a side-note, Snap On recently had part number SN4B on promo which is a 1/2" drive flexible head speed brace which is, in my opinion, the best tool to have in the car for removing wheel bolts at the side of a road. I use it with a 1/2" drive 17mm alloy wheel socket that has a plastic outer case so that it doesn't chip the paint if it comes into contact with the wheel.
Thanks again.

....apart from a torque wrench obviously!

To be fair, ANYTHING is better than the little wheel brace the cars come with

Hahaha, I walked into that one!! I did consider that but decided against it. All the rattling about would knock the calibration out over time!
Yeah! I know someone who bought a new Toyota (I think) a few years ago and had to fit the spare wheel. As soon as they went to use the wheel brace it snapped in two!! The best of it was that the person had been doing late night Christmas shopping at a shopping centre! Needless to say they weren't best impressed waiting for the RAC until midnight to fit the spare wheel!
