This stood out.
The Q7 went from the ZF6 speed to the ZF8 when it was facelifted CIRCA 2010, which explains why it was so easily possible on a facelift, Audi didn't have to wait for the next generation Q7 to introduce the ZF8.C/D: At least it was easy for automakers upgrading to the new eight-speed auto.
BJ: Our eight-speed is the exact same size as our six-speed. We did that purposely so our customers could switch mid-cycle. Other than a technical application engineering of the electronics, mechanically we had very little we had to change, so driveshafts could stay the same, mounting points could stay relatively the same.
Obviously, the ZF guy is referring to car manufacturers as his 'customers', but was curios if this means it would also fit into one of our ZF6 cars. Not that I ever would, but I do realise some of you are braver/madder than me, although Classba's out as he's already had his ZF6 upgraded, anyone want to attempt this and report back!?
