You don't necessarily have to take the engine out to do those jobs. Franchised dealers will probably say you do, but there are some specialists who have worked out how to do it in-situ.

I agree with Nick.

However, as you mentioned other jobs i think what you listed above makes sense to accomplish 'in one go'. Check also the state of your oil lines / oil pump / oil seal if the engine out is the route you'd be taking.

Hi Jon,

Sounds like we will be working in parallel from the other side of the globe...
Have you started your oil/water leak repairs yet?

What serviceable parts have you decided to stock up on before you do?
I flippantly said to my garage here in Hong Kong - just replace all lines/pipe/seals etc... and was then bowled over by the cost of parts.. (£10K+) so I am now trawling through the interweb to try and reduce the cost.

The car is in their garage and they are happy for me to supply parts - I have used him for over 6 years on all my cars so we have a good relationship which is more than can be said for Audi HK - but that's another story.

Cheers

The coolant pipes in the wing can be done by a mechanic thats willing to persevere without taking the engine out, did mine in an afternoon.

I've recently been doing maintenance as part of preemptive works ready for TTE1000 conversion almost identical to S4Player's and had to the following (can get part numbers if anyone is interested)

front crank oil seal
all coolant pipes on front of engine including 4 way piece and radiator feeds
coolant pipes leading to transmission underneath
oil breather lines on top of engine leading back to separator and catch can

probably looking at a parts bill of around £1200 from TPS so far.

Cheers,
Rich
