Failed DRC

Post by tintin1929 » Wed May 29, 2019 8:14 pm

Hi All,

Well, another statistic to add to the failed DRC pile... The flexi hose that feeds the hydraulic fluid into the rear O/S shock has been leaking and now I'm getting a clunk from the N/S front corner. I can replace the components myself but don't have the equipment to refill the system with hydraulic fluid. I read a thread on this forum that shows how someone has built one (Kudos that man!) but I really haven't got the time or patience to do all that with a house renovation on the go at the same time. Audi have quoted ££ to fix (I'm in the Huntingdon area in the UK so if anyone knows of a specialist that can do it cheaper, let me know!). It's a shame as I would really like to have retained the DRC but hey-ho.

So my question is this; has anyone coilover'd their C6 RS6 Avant and did it spoil the ride very much? The set I am looking at claim to be 33 way damping adjustable so I'm hoping there's some compromise I can find somewhere between the bounciness and the go-kart feel. I liked the refined, executive like performance of the car which is why I'm sad to be losing the DRC.

My experience with coilovers has been in Skylines, Supras, Evos, Subarus, etc (when I was in the trade) and they were all hideously stiff, even on the mildest setting but I'm sure things have come a long way since.

Appreciate any experiences you can share about how they are on yours :biggrin3:

if not too off, Audi VW specialist in Harrow recently replaced my rear LS shock and re-charged the DRC - highly recommended!

I heard UNIT20 in Liverpool can do the same - replace and regas. Cost around £900, what did your fix cost c3nturi0n?

There are plenty in Germany running the kw3 coil overs and rate them highly. For me it's the loss of the DRC switchability that would put me off going that way.

Hi c3nturi0n,

I have a 2007 B7 RS4 which failed it's MOT today due to badly corroded DRC pipes on the nearside rear. As I live in NW London, could you let me have the name of the Audi VW specialist you used in Harrow, so I can find out if they will quote me to replace the corroded pipes?

Thanks...

If anyone else out there knows of an independent Audi specialist in the London area who can help with replacing corroded DRC pipes on a 2007 Audi RS4, it would be appreciated.

My "go to" garage is Russell Automotive Centre in NW9, who I recommend highly (they have been looking after my RS4 for the past 7 years and are fantastic) . Unfortunately, they don't have the right equipment for the job.

Thanks for the replies chaps :-) I think I'll rip the DRC off (although I will mourn it's loss :-( ) and replace with coilovers. It's just unsustainable and unfeasible to have to drive hundreds of miles any time there's a problem with the hydraulics... it's a 10 year old car and I have to consider these sorts of issues could occur more given the age. Putting coilovers on it will give me more control on the service-ability.

Now... to find a guide on ripping out the DRC....! :-)

Thanks c3enturi0n!

I've dropped them an enquiry email, let's see what they reply.

Unlike others on this thread, I considered a coilover conversion but decided that, as it is immaculate and low mileage, I would keep the car in its original "factory spec" in the hope that I am in possession of a future classic. Especially as mine is a saloon and all future RS4s were only available as Avants ;-)
