Automatic car driven in a straight line for 1/2 a mile - definitely amateur vs professional drivers is the sole reason why a 630hp car runs slower than the measured 580hp released version of the same car :D

I very much doubt anyone disagree with the result (the C6 would come last, it's heavier with a much slower gearbox with no LC) but rather why the mapped RS6 was so much slower than a stock one, and we're trying to think of reasons for that.

It all sounds like sour grapes to me.

The issue is probably more about amateur vs professional drivers.

Ha ha...it probably does 😁😁.

But Personally, I’m not fussed that a c10 year old car loses against new cars. I expect and want the world to move forward...so want the new stuff to win. What I don’t get is why they didn’t use a C7 or at worse, a standard C6??? Let’s compare Apples for Apples.

Does launch control matter?

Does a mapped RS6 spin the wheels off the line?

When you multiply 1kNm times first gear times final drive times TC multiplication times transmission efficiency divided by wheel radius you get a figure much higher than the laden weight.

To put some numbers on that and compare with laden weight = 2100kg = 20.6 kN

Stock engine... : 650Nm x 4.171 x 3.317 x 2.0 x 0.8 / 0.350 = 41 kN

Mapped engine: 1000Nm x 4.171 x 3.317 x 2.0 x 0.8 / 0.350 = 63 kN

That torque converter multiplication is only achieved at stall, with the turbine stationary, and it drops off to 1.0 quite quickly. It will be slightly higher for the mapped engine.

This doesn't take into account the extra torque needed to accelerate the engine and transmission in first gear (the engine doesn't blip to the redline instantaneously).

Even so, that should be enough torque to break traction if you launch by holding the car on the brakes.

This means the launch MAY be slowed by wheelspin or traction control intervention - things that the driver can do something about, rather than depending on stomp and go technique. This is what I was alluding to above, but it takes a bit of explaining.

This all assumes you can actually hold the car on the brakes. Does anyone know if the boost is limited if the brakes are on?

Definitely something wrong with that 0-100mph time and the 1/4 mile with a "mapped" car, even a stock ECU is better than that!!!

Stock mine did a 9.7sec 0-100mph measured on a 10hz V-Box type device and a 1/4 in 12.4 sec @ 124mph
735hp mine did a 7.4sec 0-100mph measured on a 10hz V-Box type device and a 1/4 in 11.2 sec @ 130mph

So in the video there's no way you only add 9mph from 1/4 to 1/2 mile with 630-650hp mapped car - no way at all, that poor guy had best get his car sorted at MRC pronto! :D

On the other hand they can't even get the prices right (£40k RS6!) so who knows how crap Autocars journalism actually is :D
Those figures sound like what you'd expect, but look at the 1/4 mile speed in particular.

It's 123-124 mph for ALL these cars: Porsche, Mercedes, your Audi and "Autocar's" Audi.

The Autocar Audi is significantly slower by every measure, so it can't possibly be doing 124 mph at the quarter.

It must be a miss-type. If you replace 124 with 114 it all makes sense. The car must be sick.

So, if you go to http://www.torquestats.com/modified/ind ... =Calculate

You’ll see that the calculated 0-60, 0-100 and standing quarter times for a standard C6 RS6 are 4.6, 10.2 and 13.13@114mph
