Replacement brake discs
Re: Replacement brake discs
Plus AP's are a massive 8kg lighter per disc, better cooled & made from better grade of steel, all of which makes for much better performance vs OEM.

Re: Replacement brake discs
I think I've been on crack
I weighed mine on my works scales (I only had small kitchen scales at home) and I got the AP's at 12Kg and OEM at 16.5Kg so I think the wildly wrong 8kg per disc came from adding both sides, however neither figures are the same as what you've got which is confusing me.
Could you try standing the discs upright rather than laid down incase there's a difference (thats how I did it)? The reason I ask is that ,if you lift both, do you think both weigh virtually the same, as per the scale results, as I felt the AP disc setup with the hat included still felt lighter than the OEM.
I also know myself and TomRS have weighed our 410mmx36mm discs and both got 13.5kg, so I can't imagine 390mm discs only being 300g lighter than 410mm discs?

Re: Replacement brake discs
The weight of the used OE discs will depend on the level of wear but I doubt that even mine have lost 2.5Kg each.
Still, it'd be interesting to try weighing mine when I do the job.

Discs were not that bad,
I double checked the weight:

Re: Replacement brake discs
MoT time today, so whilst the car was in I asked my Steve to measure the front discs ('cos I forgot to do so last week when I changed the pads). They aren't as bad as I'd assumed, they've still got 0.5mm before they reach the limit.
Usually he has a list of things he could have a go at me about (which last year included the coolant pipes, 'the' oil leak and some brake line corrosion), but all he could say was that the driver's door lower hinge could do with some lubrication.

Re: Replacement brake discs
Wireliner - Thanks for the update, looks like my work scales are wrong then but it's good to get confirmation on the correct weights, thanks.

You're welcome.

Re: Replacement brake discs
No one locally (Australia) has these in stock, where have you guys found the best place to order them? Cheers Trent
