ITG Filter Breakdown

Post by RS6-T28RPH » Fri Sep 22, 2017 8:18 pm

Just carried out a full service and it would appear that one of my ITG filters decided it wanted to let the engine go all pac-man on its ass and start consuming foam filter (see piccy) They were fitted October 2015, had no issues over the past year or so however went 720bhp courtesy of MRC back in March time so wondering if the increased airflow and my general driving habits are not quite compatible with the ITG filter? or I just got a bad one, who knows, either way, lesson learnt on periodic checking of air filters but also a heads up if anyone else has ITG filters!

It's a known issue with ITG filters, as they get older as the engine heat can eventually make them brittle - viewtopic.php?f=47&t=122549#p820905 - MRC have now switched to BMC filters according a reply in my link too.

Wonder if the 'consumed' itg filter has contributed towards my secondary air injection problem? Either way we ordered the bmc filters on friday so looks like we made the right choice there, so hopefully can get them fitted on Monday although it makes a nice sound without filters :-)

Thanks for sharing information.
I've got BMC filters on my side. So far so good.
I don't know about ITG, but for BMC one's you have to clean and grease them once a year.

mine were destroyed as well when i changed them. They arent as well made as the BMC ones, so all the intake pressure on them eats them alive.

well, really happy with the BMC filters, unsure whether its placebo but things feel much more progressive in terms of power delivery now, plus the BMC filters are red which has kicked off a bit of thought about colour coding the engine bay up, get some red boost hoses on etc.

they were checked and cleaned at the last service and were ok, just a case of it is what it is and move on to something else. The BMC have a lifetime warranty providing cleaning routines are adhered to but the construction alone is worlds apart from the ITG filter despite both brands being roughly the same price.

I have service coming up and it's been about a year since I put the ITG filters in, I just hope they haven't deteriorated them same. I have however purchased some BMC filters as replacements. I thought the excess oil on the ITG filters were fouling up the MAP sensors causing me to suffer from multiple misfire issues but always seem to rectify the issue with cleaning the MAP sensors with some MAF cleaner?
