C6 Ownership Questions

Post by SR71 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 2:41 am

I'm hopefully about to graduate to the V10 big league after owning 5, 8 and 6 cylinder'ed S and RS Audi offerings. However, I have a number of questions about the C6 ownership proposition:
  • What is the Main service interval?
  • What is the gearbox oil change interval? Does Stage 2’ing the car reduce this? (I believe it is originally supposed to be a "sealed for life" unit but it would appear that's bo**ox.)
  • How long do the spark plugs last? Does Stage 2’ing the car reduce this?
  • When Stage 2’ing the car is it necessary to delete the secondary cats?
  • Typically, how long do a set of tyres last?
  • Typically, how long do a set of brake discs last?
  • Lots of the lowered cars seem to be running K&W springs. I presume this allows the retention of the DRC? However, is it possible to lower the car by a recalibration of the air suspension using Vagcom? I like the look of the car running 10mm lower. Is it possible to lower the car 10mm using Vagcom?
  • Running a stock suspension setup, is it possible to run 10mm spacers all round on the 20” setup? Or is it 10mm on the front and 8mm on the back?
Thanks.

I hope I can help -

1. Every 10k miles is a "minor" service (around £500) and every 20k miles is a "major" (around £800) - at least that's what's quoted by the specialists, Audi may have a slightly different "long life" service etc which will be more expensive (RS tax :D).
2. Every 20k miles on a Stage 2 car, personal opinion on a stock car but I'd go with 40k miles
3. Changed every 20k miles as part of the major by specialists, Audi may be different and they'll charge and extra £300-400 for the plugs and fitting!
4. Stage 2 would be considered a remap, air filter and second cat delete (cat back exhaust not essential). The main benefit of a second Cat delete is roughly an extra 30hp & 100nm of torque over a Stage 1 car (approx 720hp and 1050nm for S2 map and 690hp and 950nm for S1).
5. My MPSS lasted around 15k miles. Well at least when they weren't being punctured every 5k miles anyway, bloody Kent roads!
6. Discs should last 30k miles easily, pads around 10k.
7. DRC is not air suspension so no, thats the newer C7 only. The DRC is just a normal shock & spring setup but the oil inside the shocks is linked diagonally i.e. front left/rear right & front right/rear left etc (like the brakes). The KW springs are a good setup but there's no aftermarket adjustable camber arms so you'll wear the inside edge of the tyres more if you lower it.
8. 10mm spacers all around will fit stock suspension but the rears will need a little less if lowered however others with actual experience of the lowering/spacers may be able to help more.

Hope that helps!

Ian

EDIT - Item 4, changed 100ft'lbs to 100nm - got my units mixed up!

Cheers Ian.

Just to confirm, the C6 RS6 Study Guide suggests the 3 way adjustable DRC (Sports Suspension Plus) is an option.

However, the C6 Variants Thread at the top of the Forum suggests Sports Suspension is standard on the C6 RS6.
Standard equipment was
Wheels, tyres and suspension
20 x 9.5J ‘5-segment-spoke’ design alloy wheels with 275/35 R20 tyres
Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) Sports suspension system with 3-level control
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Which is it?

It was standard, in the UK at least.

The "C6 Variants" thread is incorrect. The "Sports Suspension Plus" is the 3 position DRC (Comfort, Dynamic, Sport) which is standard fit to UK cars. The "Sports Suspension" is a single position none adjustable version, like the C5 RS6, which may have been available in Europe, South America, Asia etc.

The C6 RS6 Study guide - http://www.ianhenshall.com/C6_RS6_Study_Guide.pdf - is for all variants of the car sold in Europe, South America, Asia etc, which is why it has to describe both the "none adjustable" version (on page 34) and the UK standard 3 position version (on page 35-36).

Another few questions?

1) Is it possible to recode the DIS to show the oil temperature on other screens besides the Lap Timer screen? I'm sure I recall the oil temperature was visible on the B7 all the time?

2) What "spare" is normally located under the boot? The space there in my car is "empty"? What should be there?

Thanks.

I don't think it's possible when Iv had a play around on VCDS.
And nothing just a polystyrene insert with reinfkation kit. You wouldn't get a spare big enough to cover the calipers. Not checked if a full wheel fits in or not

It was inevitable.

MRC magic worked again.

706hp/985Nm with 2nd cats still in place.

FWIW the data is quoted directly from every official UK sales brochure and was never intended to cover none UK cars so as such does not talk about "sports suspension"
