Intermittent Oil Sensor Warning

Post by 23skip » Tue Jan 17, 2017 2:12 pm

Hi,

for the past week or so I have been getting intermittent "Oil Sensor" warnings. The yellow dash lamp seems to come on and go off somewhat randomly whilst driving. I have checked the oil level and it is fine. There is no sign of any leaks. I have topped it up to the upper half of the dipstick just in case, but it has made no difference. I assume it is a faulty sensor for which I have been quoted £171.80 + vat plus and 1 to 1.5 hrs labour to fit. Before I go ahead however I have read that this part shares a common earth with the bonnet locking mechanism/switch and that earthing problems could be causing this warning.
Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of this and is there anything I can check (i.e. where is the earthing point located?).
Any help would be appreciated (2008 5.0 V10)

hi there
no mine went last year , sensor kept saying it needed oil but by checking the dipstick it never , pain in the arse its at the front bottom under the light , they usually have to take the whole front off to change it , that price you have been given is pretty good , go with it , regards tony091

Also had this done. Took several days as the headlight brackets are fragile and they broke one which is not a stock item so had to wait for part from Germany.
It was done under warranty but pretty sure total invoice was c.£600-£700 ish so your price is pretty good to say the least.
