I had to put in 1 litre of oil in the first 2 weeks of ownership (2.5 years ago). My car had "misting" around the oil seal (as described by audi to avoid an insurance claim!)

I then discovered Forte seal conditioner.

I did some research, including calling Forte's research dept.

Forte explained to me that the additive is chemically inert to the oil and engine but basically re-conditions any rubber it comes into contact with.

I put in 2 at each oil service (depends on amount of oil in engine) and for the last 2 years my car has basically lost hardly any oil.

1 tiny top up I can remember in the 2 years

Forte seal conditioner is trade only to buy (in the UK anyway) but you can buy it on ebay

Works for me

ordered some up,gonna try it :)
Just be aware that the first application can take up to 500 miles for it to work. I noticed after about 300 miles. Good Luck, and great stuff your posts.
i put a 125mil tube in,and know it will take time to absorb. thanks..for the advise.£15 quid of ebay :)

You need 2x125ml really. If I remember right, it's 1 tube per 5 litres of oil.

I know this is a bit of a thread revival.

But have you got a link to where you got that exact 'racetrack' seal from please?
I'm gonna do my water pump as a matter of course while my engine is out. But wanna sort this pre emptively.

Revival # 2

Does anyone have a part number for the seal between oil pump and coolant pump?

Racetrack style seal?

Thanks,

Also got a slow oil leak from the front left of mine. Mines RHD so not sure if that has any influence on arrangement of parts relevant in that area. Also interested in tracking down one of these seals of anyone knows how to find one? Cheers!!

The most likely point for oil leaks is the legendary '50p seal" (which is actually an 'O' ring and is now around £3) on the oil pump drive cover, it's probably the subject that appears most frequently on this forum.
As far as the oil pump itself is concerned, there are something like a dozen internal seals in the oil/water pump assembly, 7 of which being of the 'racetrack' style (in two different sizes), see this thread for a sort of exploded picture. There's also info in the thread about sources for the seal kit.
