So... It's time to say GoodBye to RS06 PPP

With great regret i must throw the towel in with the RS6, it’s come to an age and things have happened that i just cannot justify spending big money on anymore it’s just a wallet drainer and as much as I’m going to miss the thing she went in PX on Saturday.
If anyone is wondering why i didn’t offer it to Forum members, there were little niggles that i wouldn’t have been happy selling to a genuine person, but a PX at a dealer is not a problem as it'll not cost them very much.

Anyway, so i am now no longer in possession of an RS, i instead left Peterborough with something a little bit silly!

I originally planned on just getting rid of the 6, I got offered a nice sum for the car (due to its spec, being a rare 3G MMi car and having quite a lot of options on it as well as the brakes and all the other fancy bits)
As I was sighning paperwork and getting the car inspected a Pearl Grey GT-R pulled in next to my RS (photo below) I originally thought it was a customer or something so didn’t think anything of it.
They had another GTR for sale (completely standard) which didn’t even catch me eye, I’ve actually not been a massive GTR fan feel they are over hyped.
So after walking out and getting my possesions out the RS ready for a lift to the train station, I said “that’s nice” and the Neil (the guy I dealt with) said it had just come in and wasn’t even prepped.
Long story short we got talking and it turns out it has some seriously strong modifications to it.

SVM Forged Rods
SVM Forged Pistons
SVM Spec 264 cams
Port and polished head
Balanced crank etc.
1050cc Injectors
Milltek catless downpipes
SVM 102mm Y pipe and Cat back exhaust
Litchfield Super Stock intercooler
Cobb V3
K&N Large filters
SVM Suction pipes
SVM 80mm MAF housings
SVM Low temp stat

Gearbox oil/Diff oil & spark plugs also changed at this time.

As well as that it had discs and pads/tires all round in January 2016 and the engine work mods above were carried out in May 2016 the car has covered a total of 3300 miles since the engine and just under 4500 miles since tires and brakes were done.
Also has the Latest Launch Control and gearbox/engine software

The sum of this is 680bhp and 650 Ib/ft (gearbox limited)

The car is an animal, its surprisingly brutal mid range and has great top end, its also a total dream to drive on the motorway, the suspension is a bit stiff and I don’t like the door handles but otherwise it’s a very nice car to live with.
Its not nice round town or when the gearbox oil temp is low, but otherwise its lovely it even has Sat Nav, Auto wipers/lights/dimming mirror/folding mirrors… Bluetooth Audio/handsfree, BOSE audio is actually very crisp. On par with the RS6 easily, certainly has more punch on the bass due to the sub’s in the rear of the car (standard fit) even has heated electric seats.
Everything is laid out for the driver and it’s a deam to drive.. it pulls a bit on motorways if you fall into a “rut” but that’s the nature of the beast I think, my RS6 would do this occasionally too, not really a gripe.
The noise is actually very quiet over 2000 rpm and cruising at 75mph I even managed 31-33mpg using only half a tank to cover 180 miles (full tank is £65)

Launch control is the scariest thing I’ve ever used… the RS6 was brutal but my god I’ve never felt a car take off like this, it’s a much more focused car and feels at home being driven like a idiot!

So all i can say is i understand the hype and am loving it so far, its only been a few days but this thing feels like a keeper!

So I’ll be sticking around here as I don’t really like the GTR forum, prefer this place as I’d say it feels like home! But for now im a traitor haha!

I loved my 6 as well Jules but it was just starting to cost money hand over fist… DRC, Gearbox, water leak, oil leak, new undertrays/arches, aux radiator and it has an intermittent ABS fault and the aux tensioner had started to make a noise the day before I was due to sell it.
So with all that and the money invested I just felt it was time to cut my losses so to speak.

The GTR has done 42k miles and costs £175 every 6 months/6000 miles to service, the rest of the maintenance (if nothing else goes wrong obviously) is just diff oil and gearbox oil every 18000 miles at a total cost of £400 that includes engine oil/filter too and obviously each interval it gets an inspection and various other bits and bobs done.
Personally I don’t think its an outrageous cost for such a nice car with the power its running.

I don’t particular think they look good either, but there is a presence that I do like… they are wide and very distinguishable, reliability looks pretty sweet after speaking to SVM before buying her on the day, he also told me that the car in question was a good example and was very clean, nothing untoward on the mot and plenty of history to back up its condition.
Most common faults are the bell housing which has already been done in 2014

Its not perfect though, has some cosmetic issues and a fag burn in the rear seat but I got a good chunk of cash off the asking price so I am not complaining.

Thanks Mate! i'll still be sticking around the C6 forum as i like all you guys and i'll be back in an RS soon enough, just need to scratch the itch before prices increase to stupid levels! 2017 is the last year of the GT-R

So far i dont see it... but i will tell you if i change my mind in a few months, this might be the quickest GT-R owenership ever! but to be honest i think its a keeper, you dont appreciate it until you've driven one, as i said above i hated these things and thought they were all hype and a load of fan boys but honestly thats not the case.

Scratch the itch before the prices raise! as above 2017 is the last year of the R35 so i can only imagine prices will increase, as they have been steadily over the last few years.
Considering the 2009/10 cars were 60k new they really aint lost much money as times gone on.

Its a solid motor with tons done and lots of very good history, engine is spot on... just recently had £2500 spent on new undertrays, DRC refill and loads of other bits, fresh 1yr MOT.
Its a great spec too, 3g MMi

even the brake kit has only done a few thousand miles.... i didnt want to let it go but it was time, i really didnt have the money to pour into sorting another problem if it ever arose.
And i really fancied a GT-R

Just had a look at your old car on the Auto Trader link...looks fantastic and that will fly out the door. The photo of the engine looks like someone has done a 'money shot' all over it though?
As for the GTR, what a replacement. Seriously legendary cars, how are you finding the build quality and refinement compared to the RS? A mate of mine test drive one but turned it down as it was too hardcore for daily use (went for a new M5 instead).

Hey mate i'll still be sticking around here as i dont like the GTR owners page, i feel this is much more my home! i'll be back in an RS but i just need to scratch the GTR itch before prices hike anymore, and with the noises on mine after spending 2 and a half grand on the RS really made me decide to get rid.

Its a shame because the GTR is nowhere near as relentless as the RS was, once your into 5th 6th it slows off and just isnt as savage as the RS used to be, but overall it feels much more alive and the noise is (to me) much nicer, gear changes happen in 0.15 seconds and the launch control is face ripping, i didnt know i could move my organs that far back to the rear of my body.
As far as build quality goes i actually find it quite impressive, the cars coming on 6yrs old now and there is very little cabin wear and tear, a few little scratches on the inner door handle arms and things from someone wearing a ring, and the plastics used certainly feel cheap, but when you think the car was 60k BRAND NEW compared to the RS6's near 100k tag as a direct comparison i find it a lot lesser in some respects but the fact it has bluetooth streaming, USB, HDD for music, Nav with TMC and speed camera detection is light years ahead of the Audi for the same year.

The gearbox is a dog round town especially when cold, i mean its not brutal but you can tell its not happy driving about town, it moans and groans and makes noises.
On the motorway the cabin is extremely comfy, i returned a 31-33mpg figure at 75mph driving home on Saturday, vs my 19mpg in the RS6 for the same trip which i was over the moon with.
i didnt get back ache and the seats/driving position was very friendly on my legs/arms/back.

Driving fun is also much better than the RS, but if the two were parked on my drive and i just wanted to drive in comfort i'd pick the RS6, if i wanted to go on a long journey i'd take either and if i wanted to do some track days i'd pick the GTR.
The cross over considering what it is isnt too bad, you could use it as a daily and not be dissapointed but i think if you did that you'd soon get bored, there's folk running them well over 100k miles now using them as dailys for 7+ years, very little failiure points barring the GR6 gearbox which is a bit of weak point once the torque is turned up especially if launching the car.
Aftermarket parts are EXPENSIVE and i feel this is a bit overly taxed just because its a "GTR" but then equally servicing costs and general maintence is very affordable and with no reason to be dropping the engine and no obvious oil leak or common faults its a bit more reliable in its old age.

Personally to wrap things up, i love the thing its a technological master piece, and it makes you feel like your at one with the car as a drivers car its epic!! and i've yet to see a track day.
But i miss the comfort and torque on the RS6 if i was dailying the car i'd have stuck with my 6, but as im now down to weekend occasional use, it made sense to scratch the itch now.
No regrets so far!

P.s (engine bay man mayo) - i steam cleaned it before i sold it along with a full machine polish and paint correction so god knows what they've done to it!
