I think it would always be worth a second opinion / quote should anyone need to reach into their own pocket for engine out work.

I would highly recommend a call to Ricky at race developments. He is an ex Audi RS / R8 specialist and is the guy who will be doing my engine out work.

Check out his Facebook. I have spent a few hours in his workshop and watched him work on my car, pure genius.

Hello All,

Thank you to Brett for the invitation to comment......

Some of the prices quoted are ridiculous.

We charge £2,750 inc vat.

This includes removing the engine and transmission, removing the oil pump, replacing the seals and reassembling with new oil and filter.

The car also then has a full wheel alignment and aircon degas.

We normally advise to customers to link this work in with any additional mods they are planning (for example turbo upgrade), likewise we recommend this repair work (regardless of it leaking) to anyone in having work done where the engine and transmission is being removed.

I hope this helps and if anyone has any questions to what is actually involved then please let me know.

Cheers Ricky

well the saga continues but first thanks chris for the invoice info and everyone else for advice

so back to Audi

are you sure no other rs6 car has been in to have the engine out ?
and could you just check to see if any recent RS6 C6 service has needed part no. VN 904 608 01 050150 (the offending oring) ?
and could you provide a written quote confirming 30 hours to remove and refit the engine and the price with vat

Answer
we've had another look and we can reduce the engine removal/replace to £1500
(what the £$%& ... £4,770 to £2,970 to £1,500 isnt it amazing when they realise you know a little about the problem they're not so keen to rip your pants down)
and we will cover all parts needed if it is the oring
and yes one of the technicians seems to remember an engine being removed on an RS6 ...(Quelle suprise..me thinks) do you have any more details ? (well actually i do but why don't you look on your system it wasn't a hand written invoice and if it takes 30 hours to do surely someone remembers an RS6 in the garage for 4 days having an engine removed and put back)
But ..... if we find its not the oring we will need to charge for any parts required .... (ah the get out of jail free card eh ??)

so now waiting for an email confirming costs and what they will and what they can get out off

So thought I might try the dealer again
He thinks Audi is taking the proverbial but
offered £1000 towards the final bill or
he will pick it up and take it to his man and have the works done and delivered back which he did do when I had the fault with the tailgate
and his final offer to buy the car back .. oh yeah and at what price I ask ... full price you paid (wasnt expecting that one) but I really like the car its kinda part of the family now could I get the same price for one of the kids particularly the youngest whose 5 and knows everything and i'll just keep the car and problem (perhaps she could fit the oring )

so the question if i may
A) back to the dealers man?
B) Teeside audi ?
c) take to Ricky (see below)

responses most appreciated

thanks all

Bob (now back from depressed but sat here just scratching his head)

just seen Rickys reply and many thanks for info and could I ask how long a job is it to remove, replace the oring etc and put back ... ish

cheers again
Bob

Just to add

I got four wheel alignment done in that price too.

Teesside did a good job on mine to be fair...no leaks etc etc

But

Seeing as they've tried to pull your pants down I'd be wary about giving them the work!!

My car is in Teeside regular BOB so they know about it....ask to speak to Danielle and mention me Chris with the sepang blue RS6....she was the girl I dealt with.

Hello Bob,

To R&R the engine, R&R the oil pump, regas and wheel alignment is about 30 hours work.

JUST to R&R the engine its 20 hours.

I just don't charge £165 plus vat like some of the dealers I know!! ;-0

Cheers Ricky

So, took my car to Audi Colchester on Monday to get quote for the oil leak

"We can't quote without a diagnostic, we can book you in Weds"

"Will this cost me?"

"No Sir, it is free of charge"

Just took car in for 11am appointment

Same guy "That'll be £60 for the diagnostic"

Me went ballistic....

Also told they have NO KNOWLEDGE of this fault on these cars....

Car there now, waiting to get call and see what they say....

Audi Colchester have described mine as a weep not a leak. They have said if they had applied for an Audi Warranty claim it would be rejected.

Going at 2pm to collect car, where service manager has said he will speak with me to explain in detail.

They are cleaning FOC, and advised to "monitor" it.

Leaves me in a quandary now what I can do....

If it's weeping, then it's leaking!!

Never heard of a warranty claim being rejected because the fault is not "bad enough".

Stick to your guns!!

If in doubt raise it with Audi Customer Care and CC the service manager in on any correspondence.

Keep us in the loop.

Kind regards Ricky

Hi Ricky

I don't have Audi extended warranty, and the warranty I have got does not cover oil leaks.

So I'm screwed basically.

Will just have to keep an eye on it.
