Interesting feedback guys. Thanks for that.

No doubt, the GTR is quite the mythical drive alright but the problem is the badge. I am still looking at about 80k for a 550bhp version which is the only one I would buy.

997.2 turbo is a lovely motor. I would be looking at a 2010 one of those. That is probably the highest on the list, GTR second and then a 991 Carrera S last. The 991 is the nicest looking motor out there IMO but the power of the Carrera S would be a letdown for me I reckon.

I'm going to check this RS6 out tonight so I will have more info next week. If it is nice, clean, can organise an Audi extended warranty and the car feels as nice as I hope it does then I will most likely go for it and save the 30k.

No commitments!

A wee update.

Went to see that black RS6. A beautiful car, genuinely lovely place to be and monstrous power in it. It really is unreal the power when you are not used to it. Makes my old stock E92 M3 feel like Fred Flintstone's motor.

The problem was it was imported and it had the best part of 85k kms on it. Far too much for a four year old car and well outside my comfort zone. The brakes had a fair amount of wear on them and I simply did not get that nice happy feeling, so I backed out.

So after a lot of deliberation I settled for a MY13 GTR with 4k mls on it. It was almost 50% more expensive than the RS6. But as Ceveman pointed out...
Ceveman73 wrote:I have both the GtR and RS6. As an all rounder, as well as being the most special and fun to drive I'd for for the GTR. Boot is a good size, and back seats are fine for young kids in child seats. Handling and dynamics are far superior and 4WD will give u the security you need. I'd not want to spend 50k euros on a car with 80k kms, even if they are strong. Better off with a newer and far lower mileage GTR. All IMHO.
I would have to agree. The RS6 is one epic car with great road presence but for me, the GTR just has something special about it. I have been convincing/unconvincing myself over the last 12 months to buy a GTR, I obsess a little too much I reckon! Yesterday, I went to see (for the second time) this black MY13 GTR. 7k kms on it, that new car smell, perfect service history and bought from Nissan. It was dawdled around Puerto Banus by the current owner. The transmission temperatures never exceeded 160 degrees on it FFS!

Audi, definitely a nicer place to be from a quality perspective and gadgets. GTR has a nice interior, certainly jap, though less "playstationy" than people make out. However, the big thing for me is that the GTR feels like a cockpit, it makes you part of the car as opposed to sitting in it. Audi slower to get going but as soon as it got going it didn't stop. GTR feels more nimble, more RWD biased and for me, the power is adequate. If I need more I will get some work done once guarantee expires. I love the GTR looks and street cred and in black it looks stunning. The GTR is a car that people seem to either love or hate. I am definitely one of the former and when a chance comes along to pick up a squeaky clean black edition with f**k all mileage on it, you just got to take it.

Thanks for the input on the thread everyone, appreciate it.
Dave
