Newbie close to buying a 2010 RS6 - final guidance needed.

I've been a periodic viewer of this board over the past while but never posted.

Ever since flogging a 2008 M3 last year I've been on the hunt for something new. Living in Spain, the market aint as buoyant as the UK which can be a genuine pain so unfortunately you need to be pretty quick once something pops up for sale.

On the radar are the following: 997 Mk II Turbo, 2012 onwards GTR, V10 R8. All of these are from about €80k upwards. Ideally I was looking for less than 40k kms on the car.

The weekend, having a look through the classifieds, a spanner was thrown in the works in the form of a 2010 MTM RS6 Saloon. Black, ceramics (I think from the photos), recently serviced in Audi, new rubber all round and recently passed its Spanish version of the MOT. Overall car looks clean. It is also only €50k so it definitely got my attention.

The only downside is that it has just under 80k kms on it and that just puts me outside my comfort zone. I know this engine/transmission pairing are fairly bullet proof (bar the occasional o-ring oil issue) but given it has 80k kms done on it in 4 years, it just indicates to me "high mileage".

Given it is a world apart to what I had originally planned on buying I am trying to justify this to myself. It is far more practical, much cheaper, far more understated and given life circumstances (1 child now and possibly more on the way) it is most likely the better buy for me but I need external input on this if anyone would like to throw in a few words.

I am going to take a look at it tomorrow evening. I will try and scalp a bit off the price such that I can use it to get an extended warranty set up but is there anything else that jumps out at you RS6 owners. In terms of power, it makes mincemeat of the other options on my radar but the downside is that it would be less fun to drive. I am willing to sacrifice this in terms of practicality and given I will never be tracking it I don't believe it to be that important given it will be a hoot to drive regardless. The 4-wheel drive is ultra important here on the greasy-surfaced roads in Southern Spain and was one of the main reasons I got rid of the M3.

Anyway, enough of the babbling. Any help much appreciated folks.

Water rationing, it's going that way alright, going to be harder and harder to do these things as the years go on I suppose.

isn't buying one from Germany an alternative? at least your range of options would be much wider than what you can find in Spain...or is it not viable due to import taxes?
Personally i'd buy a stock one, or if modified i'd get it with a warranty, but then again not sure if Audi wouldn't void it due to the tuning in most cases...it's kind of tricky...

It was bought like this apparently, i.e. delivered with the MTM upgrades so was covered under the Audi warranty from the start. I would need to check with Audi if I could get an extended warranty. It has a full FASH so I have been told. But given the mileage I would need to have the comfort of an extended Audi warranty for 2 years or so. Otherwise I wouldn't buy it.

Buying in Germany and any other Euro country is prohibitive in Spain. They have crazy import taxes so it doesn't work out any better. If anything it is more expensive taking into account travel costs and then driving a car like this 2000km back to the south of Spain.

As a matter of interest, what sort of miles are people getting out of a tank on tuned (700bhp) RS6's? My mileage would be combined cycle so are you looking at about 14/15L/100kms?

as far as i know mileage should be less than the stock one IF driven on cruise control at say 140kmh on the highway, this would be due to the higher torque delivered at same rpm, otherwise a tuned car will always burn more fuel when spirited driving comes into play...my C5 RS6 takes around 10-11l/100kms at 140kmh, with a full tank of 82L i could do close to 700kmh, best case scenario if i don't floor it too often, otherwise i get 600km easily...

That is pretty excellent considering. I didn't get that in my old M3!

I am hearing that the tuned C6 RS6's are getting about 450 to 500 kms out of a tank of juice which to me is pretty OK considering but I'd like to hear first hand if this is truth or rumour.

I get anything from 180miles-280miles out of a tank generally, it just depends on how you drive it but I rarely drive like Miss Daisy (well her driver).

I have both the GtR and RS6. As an all rounder, as well as being the most special and fun to drive I'd for for the GTR. Boot is a good size, and back seats are fine for young kids in child seats. Handling and dynamics are far superior and 4WD will give u the security you need. I'd not want to spend 50k euros on a car with 80k kms, even if they are strong. Better off with a newer and far lower mileage GTR. All IMHO.

Depends on what your priorities are, and what your budget is. The GTR is one of the most competent and capable cars available at any price, coupled with mythical jap reliability, and a proper boot with usable rear seats. Compared to a 997 turbo, it has more space, better handling, better noise (with exhaust) and greater rarity. It may not have the badge kudos of the Porsche, but it wins hands down as a purer driver's car. Read any car magazine review, don't just take my word for it. The 991 turbo is another ball game, but that's twice the price!
