Insurance adjustment for tuned car

Post by Marlowwheels » Fri Aug 22, 2014 1:11 pm

Dear All

I am about to have C6 ECU remap and have spoken to my insurance company Admiral who say that 11-25% increase in power will mean an increase in my annual premium of £370.69, an increase of approx. 21%. How does this compare to other members' experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks

Hypothetically... how would they know? They're not going to put it on a dyno.

This is why we use Sky Insurance my tuned car fully covered was £20 cheaper than my standard insurance after the car club discount

I Seem to remember Sky could not cover tuned RS6 C6's as they had some limit that the C6 hit (could have been overall value which would now not be a problem)

Let me correct myself it was Chris Knott Insurance on the other forum which has a 100 BHP (used to be 50) max increase limit

Im guessing you've never been involved in a major accident. I have, and the emergency services take whats left of the car, and If the assessors find mods, you are then uninsured and in another whole world of pain.

If there is one thing you learn from this forum, do NOT drive a modded car without informing your insurance company.

Maybe it matters little to you;
In Sweden this is not an issue. The only time the insurance company could claim themselves free is if they could prove that this exact mod/adjustment/change you have made caused the issue.

Thanks guys. So I should definitely inform insurance company and should investigate quote from Sky Insurance quoting RS246 forum membership?

Afternoon all,

I too am looking at renewing my insurance and wanted to check other members experience of Sky Insurance. I have an MTM 730 upgrade and whilst Sky are aware of this package they required the car to have a tracker? Given the positive
comments about Sky I'd like to use them but wanted to check if current Sky customers have trackers fitted?

I've tried the usual suspects like Admiral (hefty premium hike for conversion) and Chris Knott (couldn't cover due to % increase in horsepower).

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations?

Thanks.

K
