Ok so I'm still wrestling with do I or don't I remap the car? It's still got 12 months warranty and just concerned that if something went wrong that was major it wouldn't be economical to fix the car. This is only based on Internet horror stories at Audi dealer prices.
I'm coming from the GTR world where the cars have been very reliable (not saying the C6 isn't) and the cost of the average engine rebuild 6/7k and that's with some upgraded parts and 3-4k for a gearbox repair. Obviously these prices aren't nothing but it's not the end of the world. I did speak to two tuning places that said that there rS6 remaps where 'undetectable' but again I'm not sure I fully believe them tbh.
I'm just Just wondering about much would it cost if the worst happened I.e for an engine rebuild, or gearbox rebuild, turbo failure etc etc at a good Indie perhaps for example MRC, unit20 and the like?
Does anyone have experience of this? Or am I better just keeping the car standard, perhaps just an exhaust where things are unlikely to go wrong or could still be argued to be fixed under warranty.
Any thoughts or advice from members or tuners would be great.
What's the worst that could happen?
Re: What's the worst that could happen?
Mines been good as gold since remap....not aware of any major engine failures standards or mapped cars?
(No doubt someone may have a story but I don't think any on here?)
I toyed with map before I got mine done, best thing I ever did to car.
Might only be an extra 140ish BHP but believe me you feel it!!!
Not as "shouty" as a GTR or similar but all you have to do is look down at the speedo and...whoosh!! Crazy figures.
The engine seems bulletproof and gearbox too...
I'd have thought a standard RS6 would feel slow compared to a GTR? No?....for me it would be a given to map it after a GTR?

Re: What's the worst that could happen?
Cheers Chris, tbh yes it does feel slow compared to my GTR as it was stage 4 I.e. 620hp 600lbft. Although in a straight line I would say a stock GTR 09/10 circa 490hp doesn't feel to different to a stock RS6. Where the RS6 would loose out is on a track as the GTR is immense on track!
But that's really the point of the thread I would really like a remap but worry about getting slapped with 15-20k bill etc

Re: What's the worst that could happen?
I think you'll be fine...as mentioned loads of mapped cars on here and other forums that I browse on and I've never personally heard of any horror stories.
This engine and box seems hard as nails...i believe you can go down the route of hybrid turbos and all kinds of wizardry and get 850-1000bhp!!!...MRC are Your guys in this country.
As ever I suppose any engine can go bang mapped or not?...chance we all take.
You can also get the gearbox mapped for quicker changes and ability to go to red line again by MRC.
I know MRC gets plenty of praise on this forum, but for me these guys know there trade. If you look on their Facebook page they've mapped cars that are already "allegedly mapped" and made know where near what was claimed until MRC put there magic to work.
Hopefully some others will be along soon to share there "mapped" experiences.
