C6 vs C7

Post by alex_123_fra » Tue Mar 04, 2014 11:24 pm

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered but couldn't find a useful comparison from people who have driven both. Currently have a GTR (R35) and my kids are rapidly outgrowing the car and the boot space isn't what it needs to be. Superb car in every other way even though only mildly modded to around 620bhp.

I've been trying to decide between a C6 and C7. Although I like more modern tech and have a soft spot for V8s, I can't help but think I'd feel quite short changed if I bought a nearly new C7 for £70-80k whereas I can have a C6 for £35-40k.

I know they are different cars but if anyone has any experience in terms of ride, handling, performance, reliability (of the C6 in particular), I'd love to hear it. I will be modding mildly most likely using MRC to the tune of 700ish bhp so thoughts on what would get there in an easier fashion welcome.

Thanks,
Alex

Probably worth looking in the C7 section as quite a few people have posted their two pence worth regarding C6 vs C7 following test drives and recent purchases.

From my point of view - un-modded C6 - the v10 on full chat is awesome but you feel all the weight of it in the bends, the C7 hides that much better with all the clever electronics and is just as fast. Cabin on the C6 is fantastically made but feeling dated.

The C6 is pretty much bullet proof but there are exceptions, a few guys here have had to swallow some chunky bills - have a look for a few threads mentioning oil seals.

Best thing to do is take a couple for a drive :-P

V10, ahem.

C6 offers fantastic value. C7 is more modern and feels it.

Ok so the C7 is more modern and feels it. If I were to get a C6 I'd buy one with audi warranty and keep extending it till sale time.

I suppose the question is, is the C7 £35-40 better than the C6. I could have a C6 and also get a separate track car with some of the change.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, considered C7 S6 with Milltek and MRC remap? 40k for an 12/18 month old example is a lot of car for the money

Don't forget S6/7 have DSG so are limited on tuning by this. RS will always have the upper hand.

C7 S6 at £40k ftw.
You'd have a C7 S6 over your C6 RS?

Not driven one so can't say for sure. But that new 8 speed gearbox is brilliant - just realised the S6 has the S Tronic iirc, but my point still stands as the S Tronic is going to be better if anything I'd imagine. Plus, all the new tech and interface I've had in C7 loan cars has come on from the C6, not as big a leap as C5>C6, but still enough to make my C6 feel a little dated in terms of nav/interfaces. Also the C7 will be newer whereas the C6 design was launched in '04. If they'd made a C7 RS 6 saloon, I'd be looking to buy one once the prices had dropped, I'll probably end up in an RS 7 at some point.

Errr not quite yet.. Was in Central last night in convoy with a Masserati Grantourismo and a 458.
C6 RS held its ground and was all over both of the so called supercars and still turned heads!
Although couldnt touch either of them in the noise stakes...

A bog standard C7 S6 just wouldnt have cut it in the same scenario.
