Slightly different perspective from me...
I've had my 2009 from the start but it's only on 28k miles, so not driven heavily (just run-in) but also sits a lot doing nothing for weeks in London too, starts first time, still on original battery and brake discs...and only had oil, wheel bearings, brake pads and tyres.
My take is that it's been the cheapest of all my expensive high perf cars to run by quite a margin, and for me one of the reasons it's a keeper for me too. A V10 Audi that's cheaper to service than my BMW motorbike for example is a good comparator - yes it's quite ridiculous. In comparison with other Marques I think it's cheap to Audi service, tyres are what they are, brakes are expensive, RFL expensive, but that's really it. Also cheap to insure but I have 15yrs NCB.
The real issue here is that as the cars now reach a point where enthusiasts of lesser means can afford to buy them, the running costs are still £90k high-perf car when they need maintenance or fixing, so you need to be able to handle these costs and the odd bending over too which many have highlighted on this thread. As some of you know I don't run a warranty and haven't since manufacturers warranty expired, but I have a "fund" for the very rare oil seal problem if and when it happens.
I have just invested in the gearbox and diff oil service as I think this makes sense and is preventative action.
But bottom line.. I really believe this is one of best screwed together, bullet'-proof high-perf cars and certainly the cheapest I've run (not index linked either') over the last 10 years.
OP - you can always tell if a car has been well looked after, cared for and loved a little bit...buy on condition, organisation of sellers' folder (MoTs, Tax Discs, dealer invoices, service book etc)...buy the car that has wanted for nothing and not been skimped on. There's so few V10 RS6s out there in reality that most are already in enthusiasts hands or just been flipped by those who spent what it costs, so most will be good. I wouldn't be put off by higher mileage cars, as long as plugs have been done or aren't due again (really high miles'), discs/pads good etc as I think the engine/drivetrain really are not stressed in the C6.
"Cheap" car to run...IMO.
