I apologise for what is probably a stupid question, but I am not techincal at all!
With regard to the brake disc and the drilled holes in the discs. Is it normal for not all of the holes to be there, particularly at the inner or outer edge of the disc, and indeed after 8k miles most of the other holes were filled with brake dust. It might actually be that the inner and outer holes are actually filled solid with brake dust? Am not sure.
Should I try and clear them out?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Brake Discs
Re: Brake Discs
Inner and outer holes are wear indicators and are not drilled straight through. The other ones you should be able to clean out.
Re: Brake Discs
Thanks for the information. Presumably to give best performance (?!) these other holes should be cleaned out?
Re: Brake Discs
To maintain their function, yes its best to keep the holes clear of any dust - use a screwdriver or a cordless drill if they're really blocked.
...although its debatable on how much more effective cross drilled discs are over normal ones anyway!

Re: Brake Discs

Re: Brake Discs
Mark,
from experience, older posts on this forum and advice from my garage here, the advice seems to be:
- Clean the brakes/ inner wheels with a high pressure washer.
- Drive the car hard and engage the brakes ( in a safe area to do so ) to the point where the ABS is activated, do this a few times.
The combination of these has in my experience worked. My problem came after two long winter journeys, i found the wheel felt out of balance, which it was not. the brake dust build up was casing some "wobble" and imbalance. After the Garage told me, in short, " these cars are for driving and driving hard" I took their advice, so far so good. My car has just got to 17k km's and thats the only brake issue.
I suspect after only 8k, this is the solution to your problem.
Hope this helps.
