Oil Level Sensor / Best dealer in Manchester or Lancs?

Post by GC1978 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 11:00 am

Hi guys. I have been getting an oil level warning for a few weeks plus oil sensor failure.
I booked the car into Manchester Audi just before Christmas but the day before the car was due to go in I had to cancel the booking due to their frankly appalling service and will never be crossing their door ever again.

I had already waited 2 weeks for the appointment... sigh.

So, I left for a short holiday and now I am back just took the car out yesterday and its still there so I guess the sensor is kaput.

So now I need to book her in again, the car is under warranty with Audi so no major worries but I need to find a decent dealership who don't mess customers around.
I am a busy person and I just need the car taking away, fixing and bringing back. Anyone care to advise if Bolton are ok or perhaps Stockport?

Also anyone else had this problem? Will the car be in for long and is there much involved in changing the sensor?

Cheers guys!!

Had mine changed last service. One the B6 B7 V8 it has to be done when the sump is empty, presume this is the same on the C6, so will mean an oil change, so usual things of making sure they use the right oil and that the level is right when it comes back. Mine was a tad overfilled but thankfully nothing too extreme, it burns oil so damn quickly it wasn't an issue

If its under warranty maybe suggest you buy an oil filter from them at the same time and hand the service advisor your service book with an extra tenner inside to persuade them to stamp the book!

Hi, it last had a full service about 1500 miles ago - so that's a shame if the oil has to go in the bin.
Thanks for the advice anyone suggest Bolton or Stockport? Ideally if they have XP of the RS6?

Mine was like this Chris.

Serviced by leicester Audi, 2 months on an 500miles later i get oil low light, then the oil sensor workshop light.

Turned out to be a faulty sensor, £476 or something like that, covered under warrenty, i also remeber someone else having this issue on here after the car has been serviced, the sensor messes up.

Ian. The C6 has a Oil Tank at the side in the drivers side wing as its a dry sump engine, not sure where the sensor is but i would say its on the tank and would need to be emptied to change but knowing the stealers they may reuse as they try getting out of paying for the smallest things.

From memory the sensor was £90 incl vat, and another B5/B6 owner on here paid the same not long after mine was done. Don't think TT Shop charged me any extra labour to swap the part at the same time as a regular oil and filter change.

If the oil tank is to one side hidden in a wing on the C6 V10 then I'd imagine its probably a much harder job than the B6.

Maybe your £476 included vat labour and 10 litres of Castrol Trups?

nope, that was just the Part Ian.

When i am home from work later today i will get the reciept out and put the part number and price up, no quote of OIL on their.

also going on the subject of oil, they always quote you 10ltrs but the books says 8ltrs so be carful when they supply you the oil as they will use no more than 8ltrs but try charge for 10.

I supplied 10ltrs and they gave back 3 ltrs. i asked about this and said that if they had only used 8ltrs they would of only charged me for 8ltrs. quite hard to believe myself which is why i supplied my own.

you cant even access the back of the headlights as they are pushed up against everything, you have to remove the bulb to remove the headlights. They have crammed everything in but its well worth it :D

Sensor was £487.93.

requires 2 hours and 15 mins to change. don't say nothing about OIL.

Go with who you think offer the best service, I would email both dealers and see who gets back to you 1st and take it from there, I use email contact just so its all documented as they say one thing on the phone and do and say something completely different when in front of them.

My oil light started coming on soon after a service. The dealer insisted the oil level was correct and checked it with Audi Tech. Ended up replacing the sensor and some wiring looms under warranty with no improvement... eventually got fixed by me just putting a bit more oil in :audibash:

Maybe they dont know how to check oil with it being a dry sump?

I believe you have to have car running on level ground for three to four minutes....at normal temp?

Then turn off and let settle for three minutes??

Then check dipstick level in oil tank??

Or a procedure similar il have to check in handbook!!!...
