New Discs and pads

Post by ollys » Fri Jan 25, 2013 11:56 am

Had Mot done the other day - advisory on front brake pads and discs (80%) worn. Bit dubious about this but on inspection given the wear indidcators it could be right.

However Wimbledon Audi wanted £1300 for front discs and pads. The said it takes 3 1/2 hours of labour, 2 hours to fit and 1.5 hours to bed them in properly!!! Anyone else heard of this, or is this just an excuse to have a razz in my car at my expense???

(I am quite capable of doing the bedding in myself it that's what's required!!!!)

Olly

Ollys, speak to Brett asking him where he bought the disc's and pads. I think you'll find you can get them much cheaper than 1300 notes.
Sod the 1.5hrs bedding in pads... they are having a laugh. Brett fitted new disc's and pads for me just a day before delivery and I'm sure he never bedded them in but they felt good from the word go.
Too much power is barely enough.

New Discs and pads

Post by anth8910 » Fri Jan 25, 2013 2:28 pm

I priced pads and discs for the front a couple of months back and the parts were £980. At my last service in dec they quoted £300 inc vat to change the pads with a discount of 20% on the pads due to the car being over 3 years old.

THanks for the replies

I can get new pads and discs for £840 incl. VAT from Stoke Audi - so I know I'm being stuffed on the parts price by Wimbledon Audi, but are they not also stuffing me on the labour charge by this ridiculous 1.5 hours needed to hoon around in my car and bed the discs in.....? That was my question

Never heard of bedding the discs in for you. They normally advise you to take it easy for the first few hundred miles. I think they are taking the piss.

Where are the wear indicators on the discs. I had a service in Sept and was told Brake pads 70% worn then, and I have done another 5000 miles since then, no comment so the discs though at that service so how do I tell if they are worn as I think Audi want them changed to quickly :audibash:
