Coolant leak

Have started noticing the car leaving puddles sporadically; thought it was the air con drain but the coolant level warning has come on recently and that's only a few weeks after I put in a fair bit as I noticed the header tank was quite low.

Looking back at a buyers' guide it seems the culprit is most likely to be the tank or thermostat housing. How easy it the latter to get to?

Thermostat is very easy to get to if you have access to a ramp.

Heres some pictures when i changed mine - http://audisrs.com/archive/thermostat-r ... 53282.html

Hi Barry,

Oh brilliant - that's just what I was looking for - top man. There was speculation on 246 of either header tank or thermostat and I've noticed a few drops from the tray under the right hand side and under the header seemed dry from everywhere I can see. I'd happily do it myself but seeing as I'm looking to get the car serviced and MOT'd in the New Year so I'll probably just ask them to do it at the time.

Just coming back to this to tie it off - was the header tank and a rubber pipe that had a t-piece gone brittle and started to weep. Thermostat seemed to be ok.

Cheers,
Lee
