After a couple of years off, missing my S4 (and S3) badly, we are off to pick up a '57 S6 Avant at the weekend.
And, the perennial question of winter tyres comes up again.
The standard tyre (265/35/R19) on the S6 are proving difficult to source as winter tyres (and expensive when we do), and it would seem that a slightly narrower tyre is more common, i.e. 255/35/R19, and cheaper.
I assume a slightly narrower tyre will not undermine the handling in any way?
What have others done? Has anyone gone down to an 18" wheel? I have a set of Continental WinterContact TS830P 235/40/R18 XL, sitting in my garage which are hardly used and taken from my S4.
I don't have the S6 user manual yet. Can anyone tell me what the manual suggests for winter tyre size?
Thanks.

Re: Back to Black
Sorry can't help with the question, but I saw a sprint blue S6 saloon the other day on 20" RS 6 5spokes and it looked awesome!

Re: Back to Black
The circumference of your 235/40/18’s are a fair bit smaller than your current 265/35/19’s.
Ideally you would need them to be 235/45/18 this would make them the same as your current rolling circumference.
There should be a sticker on the fuel flap / drivers door jam etc with the tyre pressures on, this will also give you Audi’
s recommended winter tyre size for the car.
You can work the calculations out for yourself here:

Re: Back to Black
Good point. Thanks. There's a set of excellent and hardly used winter tyres for sale in that case that will go straight on a B6 S4.
