Steering wheel refurbishment

Hi Guys

I have negotiated an exceptionally good price for steering wheel refurbishment / retrim on the B7 RS4 wheels and want to gauge interest in a group buy. I forgot to ask about other wheels (C6 RS6 etc) but I can firm this up if there is interest outside of the B7 world!

The refurbishment would be done by:

Code: Select all

ROYAL STEERING WHEELS

9 Cranley Crescent (off Prince Rupert Drive),
Buckingham Park,
Aylesbury,
HP19 9AA,
Buckinghamshire,

Phone: office: 01296709817 / mobile: 07894209349
E-mail: info@royalsteeringwheels.com
Some examples of their work are here: http://royalsteeringwheels.com/gallery/

I have been in contact with Jack, the owner and he has offered the following prices based on a minimum of 5 wheels to be done.

£105 in leather (black leather only)
£125 in alcantara (black dark grey/charcoal)
£5 extra for a steering stripe (available in yellow, red, blue or black)

Stitching choice is free, and available in black, white, red, blue, yellow, green or charcoal.

Royal Steering Wheels will require the wheel for 10 days to carry out the work - they inferred that if they had the wheels on a Friday (for example) they would return them the following Monday. Postage would be £10 each but could be combined if two wheels were going to the same address.

Regarding how we send them off, I haven't yet discussed whether they want them all in one go (doubtul) or staggered over a few weeks etc. I would guess they don't want a sudden influx of wheels so I would imagine they will honour these prices for a set period after we've confirmed and we just send them off when we can within reason. I can firm this up with Royal when I next speak to them :)

Now, I've looked through the rules on the forum for organising group buys and think I've covered everything except the stuff about me! I haven't yet discussed with Royal Steering Wheels how they want payment, but I would imagine it would be directly to them individually once we have a list of people going ahead so no money is coming to me. I have no interest in gaining anything from this group buy other than to help other forum members - I'm paying exactly the same as everyone else for my own wheel and will get it done myself regardless of the outcome of this group buy :)

I have no association with Royal Steering Wheels - in fact, they were recommended to me by fellow members here on the forum only a few days ago :)

So, please put your name down if you're looking at getting this done so we can gauge the numbers.

Cheers

Do you know if the new trim is just placed on top of the original trim or is the original trim removed first?
Whilst retrimming over the original makes the wheel thicker, it looks slightly odd due to it now being thicker than the silver trim.

Anyone know how easy it is to remove the wheel?

And if I went ahead, I assume it would be OK to pay now and have the wheel done at some point in the future, maybe months away? As I have sold my truck and Alfa, my RS is the only way for me to get to work right now until I find a Cayenne.

I'm on the same boat as Mike. If paying now and getting it done latter is an option then I'm in.

Just had another thought. I wonder if I bought a cheap wheel from an A4 as a temp measure if it would go straight on ? I know I'd get airbag lights on and I couldn't use the sport button etc but if it works it would keep me on the road.

Another thought. If it does work I could just send it on to the next person once mines done as I won't have a use for it. Just an idea.....

You can buy B6 wheels with airbags for £30 on ebay. Not sure if the wheel would fit or the loom for airbag?
Or you buy buy a B7 wheel without airbag for about £25. Or even a Momo wheel (for cars without airbags).
Not sure on the legality of driving a car without airbags?

Or look for a wheel with the round airbags so you can use your existing one?

In my situation I'll just take the wheel off as the car can stay in the garage - but the idea of an a4 poverty spec wheel going from one person to the next is a great one IMO :)
I think it's probably touch and go legally if you're running without the airbag but I'm presuming you'd try and plan it for the week it's being done to be a quiet one where you need the car as little as possible. :)

Oh and sorry mike forgot to answer your question. I believe unless you specifically request it, it's a trim replacement - not stitched over the top (although he did mention some people prefer it thicker)

Ask Royal for a group buy code just for us. Then distribute the code to each person in the group buy, this will ringfence the group buy price just for those that signed up and make admin easier for Royal.
