Hi chaps,

Ex-RS4 B7 owner here but I'm missing it more and more. Was crazy to let it go as spent a lot on mods for it but went for a GT-R which is a cracking car but it ain't no V8!!! I miss the V8 soundtrack more and more and have always loved the look of the R8. So I'm on the lookout for the V8 R8; it's got to be in black too. The GT-R is still with me and if anyone knows my history on the RS4, they'll know I cherish my cars, the GT-R being no exception. A p/ex would be the easiest route for me so if anyone is considering a change, please let me know.

Try the V8, then try the V10, but have the windows open when you do, the soundproofing inside any R8 is just a bit too good. Having said that, at 7000rpm+, the howl of the V10 is superb, a real supercar noise.

Good luck with whatever you end up with.

Stock pipes make r8's sound too quiet too, you have to go aftermarket to release the true noise!

Personally I prefer the deeper noise of a v8 as opposed to the howl of the v10.

Let's face it though, either is an amazing noise to have!

I don't think anyone can help, but the GT-R's is pretty good I must say?

i would love a GTR, i was close to getting an R34 but knew id modify it too much, so settled for the RS,

the GTR has so much road presence, more than an R8, dont get me wrong i love the R8 it looks a little soft

I bought my v8 r8 from a dealer who had it given in px against a GTR he sold!

I couldn't live with a GTR, too gimmicky and plastic for me, I love the quality the r8 gives.

Yes, I'm with you there...one of the reasons why I'd like to own one. Quality is on a different level, no question.

Friend of mine just went the other way around as he though the R8 was too boring (on track) so bought a GTR !

I haven't as yet tracked my GT-R (apart from a CAT Driver Training day at Millbrook) and don't intend to and wouldn't with the R8.

To be fair he is a bit of a power junky and even though the R8 was remapped etc he thought it was too slow and just couldn't hook it together properly on the corners. (he is only 27 and has V10 M5 and a remapped RRS s/charged too!)

This view would have been slightly tainted by a friend of ours and his uncle who run rather modified GTRs

The black one (owned by a guy of a similar age) was running slicks and about 650bhp and the white one (his uncles) is running 950bhp as will this guys soon.

I've driven both but more importantly been a passenger in the black one a few times and at Spa we were all over the back of new GT2RS being driven really well and at Silverstone a race prepped 458 Fezza that could not get away (well until he went off under pressure on one of the corners ! I love the look of the R8 but having experienced these GTRs (first hand) you have to say they are an awesome bit of kit.

Thanks for the info and picks. Yes, the GT-R is an impressive piece of kit; it felt so razor sharp when I test drove one when I had my RS4. Being an ex-biker, it's the closest thing I've driven to what feels like riding a bike. I need to get a test drive in a R8 but that was like pulling teeth at my local Audi dealer the last time I tried.

Try a GTR on slicks - I drove the black one around Silverstone and it was awesome.

All of these GTR owners are in to serious bikes too (including track ones)

Obviously going to the wrong dealer then, mine lent me one for the day!

Would you chop your R8 in for a GT-R though?
