New R8 V10+

I was fortunate enough to attend a pre launch preview of the new R8 V10+ on Friday & wow, what a car. Wasn't sure i'd be that impressed given the press photos i'd seen, but the car really was amazing.
Bit strange they put it on some nasty looking 19" wheels as they really didn't do it justice, but other than the wheels, the car looked & sounded stunning. Given the + is starting at £140k & the one they presented on Friday was £151k, this takes the car out of 911 territory & slaps it straight into McLaren land along with some other interesting marques, so i'm not sure at this price level how the car will fair, but it certainly was bonny.
Apologies for the poor quality as the photos were taken on my iPhone.

Dunno, it's still going to be 991.2 turbo S money, but agree it's aimed high.
I'm going to go and drive one as its competition for my potential next purchase. Having the dealer phone me up and ask me about test driving an RS6 confirms everything I say about Audi.

Doesn't do anything for me.
Seen the new TV advert? For some unknown reason they have used the strap line that it has Ceramic Brakes?
WTF? So did a B7, so did the last car.... Whoopdidoodar

And what the fook is the dilating pupil about? Along with the RS3 popping out it's bizarre advertising.
As for the strap line who knows.

I'm quite unsure about the new look. I'm intending to test drive a plus within a week or so (I have a provisional arrangement with a dealer).

Photos don't do it justice.
The front i'm also undecided on as kind of looks too wide against the car's proportions, but the rest of the car really does look good & the sound's to die for (can't upload the video clip i took on Friday).
Likewise was offered a drive this week but no time due to work constraints.
As someone mentioned above, if this is indeed priced on a par with the top of the range 991 (Turbo S) then i know where my money would go, also assuming it's very close to Huracan money & the new McL 570S. Personally i think at £150k it's trying to punch a little above it's weight when compared to the old R8, but time will no doubt tell.

That looks a lot like you bumped into Carl Fogarty at the Audi showroom W8MPC!
It needs 20" wheels.
I priced up one I'd go for on the configurator and it was around the £150k area. There would have to be a hell of a deal for me to switch.

Carl lives locally to Blackburn so no doubt they wanted a 'Face' to be present, although he did seem quite interested in the cars & more so the rather expensive C7 RS6, nice chap though & my lad was appreciative of the photo. Tickled me that the 'young' folk referred to him as the bloke who won IACGMOOH & had no idea his fame was back in the 90's racing Superbikes.
IIRC the V10+ starts at £139k & comes with Ramics & some Carbon as standard, however a couple of boxes ticked to improve the cabin & you're quickly approaching £150k. That said, i've no idea of those god awful 19's are the standard wheel for the + so assuming they are then their's a few more ££'s to get some decent wheels on the car.

I agree it certainly looks better in the flesh, the sound is good too.
Dark colours suit the shape better.
however its still not massively practical, the boot is tiny, I know you don't buy these cars for total practicality but you at least need to get a weekend bag in the boot since it has no rear seats.
I do think the new 991.2 Turbo will be worth the wait though, judging by the first drives of the new model.
If Mclaren have really got a 1,000 pre-orders for the 570s then it'll be a long wait for one of those.

a '14 plate <10k mk1 Plus for £80k with same engine, same GB, same brakes, buckets ... fit a Capristo = DONE
Saw and sat in the new one in Geneva - 6 months on, its still ugly.

Has it got the same engine? The new + is 610bhp if i heard correctly.
Does make the old R8+ at £80k seem like a bit of a bargain, but tough to buy the old one when the new shiny one's about. Also the interior of the new one is night & day better. On the road i've no idea but i did have a giggle fest when on an extended drive in a Samoa Orange V10+ last year.

Yes, fair to say evolution of the same engine.
I agree re the interior of the old but for half the money it's a good buy.
I still don't understand pricing on the new car, discounts already being had which says a lot. This does appear to be the Audi model now, price high then discount.

+1. Actual side-blades for the win. Why couldn't they 'evolve' the side-blades? Those ducts look like they've been stolen from a Ford GT and they look <beep> for it.
