New R8 V10+??
Re: New R8 V10+??
Only relevant as the 570S is on my shortlist for this next purchase, but it really didn't rock my world in the way i thought it would. Saying that it was only a 30min accompanied drive so only had a couple of power moments.
Yes it looks stunning, the driving position is fantastic & the pace good (not insane though) & the traction as you'd expect was a massive step up from my tuned M5, however the ride was not great at normal speeds in the way the review seem to indicate it is & from the PAX seat it was borderline uncomfortable. Maybe i wasn't in a great mood being a Monday morning & i will get a longer drive before i make my decision, but being brutally honest the Tesla 2 weeks ago left me more amazed (in a good way).

Re: New R8 V10+??
That's surprising as I expected it to blow you away judging by what others have said
Having been in your m5 with you, I can agree wholeheartedly (as can your rear tyres) about the lack of traction

Re: New R8 V10+??
Was my car Stage 2 or Stage 1 when you came out? I've got a feeling the car was acting up a little wasn't it & i know i killed the rear pads quicker than expected.
It was impressive but i guess i expected to be blown away as i was driving a McLaren & that really didn't happen. Everything worked as it should & the package is a good one but i guess i really did expect sublime but got out feeling 'that was a nice car' not 'that's near as damn it a Supercar'
The last R8 i took out was at one of these Audi VIP events 2 years ago & i took out a fully loaded Samoa Orange R8 V10+. I drove it like i stole it & had i had the funds then i'd possibly have bought one as although i thought the interior was a little dated the car left me with a massive smile on my face & i was shocked how good the car was. Fully expected that if not more from the McL but it didn't happen.
Going to chalk it up to being accompanied, only having 20mins & it being Monday morning as well as the car being brand spanking new (on a 16 plate) so will have another go next month & see how it feels then.

As odd as it sounds, I like to see how a car looks on my drive, and what it's like if I take it to Sainsburys as well as roads i know well etc, not just how it feels when I boot it on a road I don't know with salesman trying to sell it to me in my left ear and constantly checking his watch for the next appointment

Re: New R8 V10+??
Exactly that. Also silly but important things such as how easy is it to get the car in & out of my garage & certainly general parking with those scissor doors.Graeme4130 wrote:Are they good for extended test drives like Audi and Porsche are ?W8PMC wrote:Was my car Stage 2 or Stage 1 when you came out? They didn't offer an extended drive, however i made it clear to Audi & Porsche that this was a vital part of my decision process & they both had no issue with this. Once i've booked the other 2 cars i'll push McL again for more time with the car. The Salesman seemed enthusiastic enough as had until moving to McL been an M Specialist so was keen to discuss the virtues of my car. He also let slip that quite a few customers had used DMS for some performance upgrades (I know they do quite a few McL's) but i didn't have the bottle to ask how this may impact the warranty.

I'm sure if you drop a few subtle hints about the other cars that you're looking at, and how they're lending you cars for a few days to try, they'll come good with somethingW8PMC wrote:Exactly that. Re the warranty : I'd hate to think what a new turbo on something like that costs. Worth remembering when modding cars, the 570 hasn't been on the market long enough for the tuners to get a reasonable feel for how robust things are, and a small amount of extra boost pressure could tip it over the edge.

You guys are warped if you need to tune at 570S!

Probably just easiest to rock up at McLaren in your 24 hour loaner R8 or Turbo.Graeme4130 wrote:I'm sure if you drop a few subtle hints about the other cars that you're looking at, and how they're lending you cars for a few days to try, they'll come good with something

That's a good idea. Hoping to get them for a couple of days though as i want to see how they perform across the range of requirements i've got.Ian_C wrote:You guys are warped if you need to tune at 570S!

I can't see McL having an issue with this as it's clear they're on somewhat of a Sales drive currently.

Re: New R8 V10+??
Turbo S extended test drive booked for the weekend of the 9th & 10th April, V10+ on the 7th April for the day & the McL 570S round Millbrook for the day on the 13th April so about as back to back as i can get them & should give me the best overall idea as to the most suitable car for me.
Intention is to take the V10+ down to North Wales & round the Mach Loop with perhaps a bit of the EVO triangle thrown in to give me the best idea of how the car behaves.

Re: New R8 V10+??
Sounds like you'll be giving the R8 and the Macca real tests. What will you be doing with the Porker, posing around Marylebone?
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: New R8 V10+??
Not really my scene & is over 200 miles away from me so unlikely.bam_bam wrote:Sounds like you'll be giving the R8 and the Macca real tests. What will you be doing with the Porker, posing around Marylebone?
As i've got the Porsche for a full weekend i'll get plenty of time to drive it on familiar roads which gives a decent comparison & hopefully will take it up to the Lakes or Scottish Borders for some cross country fun. As it's the car i'm of the opinion most likely to be ordering i wanted to live with the car under sudo normal circumstances to get a decent view of how it behaves, so child seat in, run to the supermarket, motorway time & cross country etc. Is frustrating Audi will only allow a full day in the R8 rather than overnight & McL either a local accompanied drive or this event at Millbrook, however across the 3 it should be enough to make my mind up & can then look at placing an order to secure a build slot.
Am hearing however which could change the game a little that discounts of up to £20k are available on the R8, but this could of course be Internet BS.

Re: New R8 V10+??
Yeah, 20k sounds excessive but there will be discounts available for sure.
Even the plus needs a good pile of options, it's just too expensive, even discounted IMO.

Re: New R8 V10+??
Very true. The 20" upgrade wheels are a must as the 19"s look plain & lost in the arches & as Audi see fit to put the key options in packs (often alongside a couple of things not required), that's close to £10k on top. Not interested in Exclusive or the myriad of Carbo Packs so i can even well spec'd keep the cost well under £150k. Was offered a £5k discount with no negotiating & i've set off a Car wow process to see what the real state of play is with discounts.doodlebug wrote:Yeah, 20k sounds excessive but there will be discounts available for sure.

What could make this interesting as i'm sure it will come down to the 991TS vs. V10+ with the McL being excluded due to zero practicality is if decent discounts are available on the R8 then could lead to securing a car fairly close in performance capabilities to the 991, but for perhaps £25-30k less outlay & i'm sure the servicing costs on an R8 will be cheaper than the Porsche (far cheaper than the McL).

Re: New R8 V10+??
Servicing will be cheaper, thought not markedly so. Customer service will be woeful by comparison. I actually prefer the outgoing R8, if I was after one I'd find a LMX or late V10+. I reckon 10% would be doable on a new R8, but no more.
Re: New R8 V10+??
That's interesting as thought the servicing gap would be bigger. Customer service i'd be prepared for, however do have an excellent relationship with my local Audi dealer so perhaps not as woeful as it could be.doodlebug wrote:Servicing will be cheaper, thought not markedly so. With a 10% discount if possible & the £12k lower list price the difference could be somewhat interesting, however that doesn't take into account what if any discount Porsche may have available & i'm hearing 5% is possible.
The exterior styling of the Mk1 i did initially prefer to the Mk2, however with the right wheels & in a striking colour (would consider Aura Blue) i've warmed to the Mk2 now.
