Hi all,
Just began the carbon clean tonight, got the IM off and, to be honest, looks pretty bad in there! The car was doing 10.5 seconds 2k - 8k rpm in 3rd before, lets hope this makes a difference...?

- Ready to go !!!

Nice garage space!! I've just done a carbon clean on mine myself, haven't managed to have it RR to verify increase in power yet, it was down to 365 but it feels quicker in the seat of my pants!

Yeah, I read your post - and your right, those 3 torx bolts by the bulkhead are a nightmare!!! I'm glad it was worth your while doing it and the car 'feels' better anyway. I'm more in it for the preventative maintainence than anything, regardless what people say on forums about airflow/power gains/ rolling roads, fact is - it could cause big problems if left untouched. Now, off to do some cleaning! Cheers

Ah yeah sorry Jonny, I remember you posted on mine, still early! The lowest of the 3 torx bolts I replaced with a standard hexagonal head bolt, made life much easier. Happy cleaning

10.5 for 2000 to 8000 rpm is good
spec for 3k to 8k is 8.5 sec (using all gears takes ~8 sec, 36 to 96 mph)
2k to 3k in 3rd takes at least 2 sec, probably more
8.5 sec / 5k rpm ~ 1.7 sec / 1k rpm
and the lower ones take longer than the upper >5000 rpm due to same torque but more power
hoiw many miles? those valves don't look too bad

Sorry Arthur, I miss typed! I meant 3-8k rpm @ 10.5 seconds. The cars now done 48k miles, done the clean today, went very well to be honest, and learnt a few tricks along the way

the first pics I took don't really show the extent, even the IM and flaps were caked in oil/sludge. Going to rebuild tomorrow, and do the engine, box and diff oils.

- Before...

- After :)
Quick question, the vac line that runs directly below the manifold with the check valve, is this check valve vital? Seems quite weak in its non return strength, any ideas?? Thanks

I'm sure Mrc and the like extend that vac line to bring the one way valve out from underneath as they are a know problem and it makes changing them easy.

Thanks for the support boys

yeah that sounds like the way to go, I'll extend it to out front below the main double 'T' connection, thanks for the heads up spaceman_rs4.
