Merc AMG C63 Estate

Almost had a ding dong with a C63 estate on the A56 heading to Anglesey
Pulled over let him go and stayed within striking distance
Seemed quick enough
However I was slightly handicapped fully loaded with a roof box n tailgate full of stuff and 5 passengers
Maybe next time Merc Dude :<beep>_you:
Bit shocked though when a New Toureg passed us both at well over 100, seemed to pick its feet up too when accelerating away.

Anyone else had a run in with an AMG

Look nice enough but after previous Merc's I've owned I'd never have one again

Only one run in. From a set of traffic lights at the start of a two lane sixty zone. Unfortunately for him the road was damp so he spun up the wheels off the mark as the lights changed. With about three car lengths lead I eased off and he pulled up along side me ready to go again from a rolling start but I just smiled set my cruise control to sixty and poodled along.

I have to say he did look a little frustrated!

What can I say, I had proved my point.

I've got an E55 (the E63's predecessor with very similar performance) and it is a very, very quick car. As above, on damp or wet roads the rears spin up very easily especially if you pin it from low revs. Once rolling though it's a mightily quick motor.

Edit: Oops. Just noticed you said C63 not E63.

I've a friend with a C63 estate and my standard B7 has the advantage over it in both a straight line and the corners too
C63 is a better sounding and much more fun (as in a hooligan type) car. Interior is much classier too

It's one of the old questions. The torque definitely makes the difference, 0-62 has very little in it. Especially after Evo magazine got a 4.5 out of a B7 during their road test putting it right alongside the Merc. Both are great cars and will be remembered for a long time. Luckily I live in the UK meaning half the time I could possibly come up against one, conditions will mean that four wheel drive will make all the difference against even some of the more powerful rear wheel drive cars. That and I tend to take my foot off as I get to the roads speed limit and ease back down before setting the cruise control. So it ends up being about traction and launch.

I do love the new Black edition though, I think it has a better overall look than the standard and better proportions the car which is what I like about the RS4. I have always liked evenly proportioned saloons and these two are really nice examples.

I've had amg's before and in the wet traction is not good but on a dry day a 63 will be a quicker car, I reckon your mate has a lazy leg

In the dry and a straight line the Merc will always be quicker due to the displacement and Bhp advantage which is why I held back
The AMG is set up a bit like an American muscle car to me, it's bound to be fast if you stick a huge engine in.
Just like the C6 corvette I once had, immense acceleration and top speed but handling forget it.
There's no point even trying to out gun the AMG on a dry motorway (even though the RS would have a good go) and TBH where's the fun in that.
Now put in a wet surface a few roundabouts and a few twisty bits like 99.9% of all UK roads and the RS is well gone, it would take an extremely good driver in the C63 to keep up.

Like to see a C63 in a straight line against a C6 RS6 or for a real giggle against a tweaked RS6
Now that would interesting :thumb:

B7 owners are dilusional. A c63 is quicker straight line its that simple, all this wet roads this and wet roads that is a load of nonsense. The b7 is not a fast car in fact it bored the <beep> out me hence why mines was so heavily modified. A stock b7 looks great sounds great but IMHO is not a fast car.

This surprises me Danny I take it you use it on the track then, how come you stuck with the RS4 then and didn't go with one of the rear wheel drive cars?

I agree with Danny, stock RS4s arent fast cars, they have nothing available when you need it ie under 100mph theres no grunt or get up and go.And it sound like the new B8 is a screamer with bugger all useable grunt under 6 million rpm! Having said all of that grunt is utterly useless if the chassis or drivetrain cant utilise it.The merc is a fast car for sure but theres only the odd occasion were it would be infront of an Rs4

I owned my b7 two weeks before it was supercharged I had to do something drastic to make me keep it. The rs4 was my dream car then when I got it, it was a bit bleeughhhh. I owned a c63 when I bought the rs, its quite a well balanced car but straight line it was way better than the b7 it loads of torque. Of all the cars I've owned my b7 was probably the best, I say probably because I think my turbo'd mk5 r32 was more fun. B7 great car yes, fast? Ehm no

Like Danny, the B7 RS4 was my (affordable) dream car and had been for years. Then I drove one and I was massively disappointed with the performance. It may well be amazing through corners but for something to have an RS badge it really needs to be quick everywhere IMO and a stock B7 in a straight line doesn't feel that special.

I find this talk of the RS4 as not being a fast car quite surreal. From a standing start it will reach 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds and 100mph in about 10.5 seconds. That makes it one of the fastest accelerating cars on sale today - whether new or second hand. The road test reports I have read confirm its accelerative qualities and its torque from 2,000 rpm onwards, so that acceleration in any gear is fast. I appreciate that everything is relative, and therefore that it depends on what you are used to, but it cannot be said that, compared with what else is available, the RS4 is not a very fast car.

I think ppl are using the term fast when delivery would explain their frustration better. IMO the car is plenty fast; sure there's not the drama that comes with a turbo shove but that's what you get with a linear NA car.
