DRC - Audi UK "aren't aware of it"

Post by mc72 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 7:22 pm

Spoke to Audi Uk Customer Service Dept today after mechanic advised that the car "might" have a leak on one of the front shocks. The car is due to go into Audi for a service and I wanted to pre-empt what the situation would be with the "potentially" leaking shock.

On calling Audi UK customer services I was told that they "weren't aware of it being a common problem with the cars, and there isn't a service bulletin out for your car sir". When I enquired as to what the siuation would be when the car was taken in for the service I was then told that the Audi dealer "would have to assess the car and then decide what acion needed to be taken". When I expressed my concern that it was a known problem and I would expect the Audi goodwill coverage of the rpoblem as I was aware of many others who had experienced the issue I was told that "it would be down to the dealer to decide how best to resolve the issue and then if I was not happy with their proposal then I would have to take it up with Audi UK Customer Service who would open up a case file.

I was told that "this is the new way of dealing woth issues as it makes things easier for you sir". Only really makes it easier for me if the dealer is sympathetic and it doesn't cost the dealer to resolve the DRC issue. The mention of the Jeremy Hicks letter about the DRC stopped the Customer Service advisor in their tracks but they then reverted back to the "its not a known problem and your car doesn't have a service bulletin".

In addition 2 franchised Audi dealerships also denied any knowledge of the problem.

Would appreciate any feedback from those on the forum who've had the issue resolved recently.

I think you should change the thread title to DRC - Audi UK "choose to be not aware of it"

Yes but what point do the shocks become a wear and tear item?

The car is 6yrs old now

This is the point I was about to make.
In any other car if you had the shocks fail after 6 years then you'd get very little if anything.

There aren't many modern well built cars that are needing shockers after 6 yrs and 38k miles. Shockers are not time related wear items it's much more to do with use,so mileage and type of mileage will have a bigger effect, generally.

My car has had one shocker replaced around 18-24 mths ago covered under the warranty from the previous owner which I believe was helped by the fact that he had taken Audi finance to buy the car.

We are questioning the premature/early failure if a system not necessarily routine failure of a standard shock absorber.
