RS4 B7 Clutch quote

Post by karl999 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 9:33 pm

Hi All,

I was hoping some of you could provide a little advice. I wish to purchase a B7 Avant and have my eye on one that has 88k on the clock - higher miles than I normally prefer, but the price reflects this. Full Audi service history and looks good from what I can see. I've read previous threads about the DRC problems, carbon build ups, vacuum hoses etc so I've some idea of what to look out for and thus far the car looks mint. With a car of this mileage I am a little more concerned with items like the clutch, brake discs, tyres, corrosion etc.

As I haven't owned one of these cars before (although I've had various other Audi's), so I called my local Audi independant where I get most of my other work carried out and requested a quote for a new clutch.... They came back with £790 + VAT supplied and fitted (OEM Audi parts). Perhaps I'm missing something, but that seems a little cheap (not that I'm complaining!) to me as an S3 I have a couple of years ago was more....

The garage said the clutch kit is not supplied with a fly wheel so it's not replaced unless it needs to be. What would your opinions be? Many thanks.

I'm now doing the clutch on mine, it's in bits as we speak! Im debating whether I should change my flywheel or not as it's £770 + vat!! Going to measure it up tomorrow to see if it's within the tolerances. But that does sound really cheap for a clutch job knowing the work evolved!

That's what I thought, but that's what the garage quoted. They're reputable and I've used them many times before. I phoned another Audi specialist in my area (which I haven't used before) and their quote was fairly similar.... I'm worried I get hit with some 'unexpected charge'. From what I recall, the quote was broken down as £190 + VAT for parts, £600 + VAT for labor. I must be missing something surely!!!!!

Having just changed my entire clutch assembly, slave, fly wheel, clutch hose etc... My car has 86k on it, my advise would be to have the whole thing done, it's a performance car, and it's a big job to change the clutch so while its in bits get the whole thing sorted, piece of mind for 2 years rather than the chance u might need to fix another part later on, the entire work on mine with Audi was £1600

£1600 is still bloody good! Seeing as the flywheel for me is £770+vat clutch kit £120+vat, I know I'm doing the work myself which is saving a fair bit of money. It's not that bad of job to do if you've got the kit! They say roughly 10.5 hours to do the job and I had the box out in five first time. Anyway like you said its a performance car so think I'll order the flywheel today!
So I would prepare for Audi to say the same about your flywheel!

I had quotes form 2 Audi dealers for a clutch and they were quoting over £2000.

In the end I had it fitted at a specialist (in London), including flywheel for £1950 inc VAT.

I've heard that repalacement is a "must" on OEM dual-mass flywheel, while the clutch is being changed. Also my friend learnd it the hard way. He had to pay twice for the work.
I ordered the LOBA-Sachs clutch kit with lightweigh single-mass flywheel. So next time I probably wont have to replace the flywheel.
