Misting would unlikely be covered anyway - got to have visible fluid leaking and that would be an MOT fail.
Specifically says in the VOSA guidelines that a misting shock is normal and not grounds for a fail.
As for the goodwill... plenty of 08 cars around that would easily have another year left...
Personally I think it's a case of finding the right dealer and being prepared to contribute. Shocks are considered wear n tear and lasting 5 years is not unreasonble in itself... most new car warranties have explicit shorter warranty periods on shocks.

Anyone know the current costs of DRC work?
I must saw the APS set up KWV3 car I drove last year was superb, SS+ low and dead comfy, handled like a go kart too.

Just had the offside rear fail, which took out the valve block - cost of parts was £1287 (shock £173, valve block £734, braided hose £98), plus labour & VAT came to £1552. Dealer said 2 year warranty on parts - I had the fronts and the valve block replaced 2 years and 1 month ago, so the warranty on the valve block had expired by 1 month
Failed after I had to swerve to avoid three numpties walking in the middle of the road on the Emsworth bypass after dark.

So swerving causes DRC failure?
Amazing.

Yep.
Had no problems at all until I had to swerve across 1 lane to avoid these numpties, within a couple of minutes I heard the classic rattling sound from all 4 corners when going over any bump. I wouldn't have minded so much if I had been going silly fast, but I was 4-up and was only doing 77mph (according to my GPS).

It'll be interesting to see how many B7s will go to coilovers as the DRC gives up...

if I have my car when the DRC gives up the ghost and I can't get Audi to fix it
Bilstein struts/shocks
new front/rear strut/shock mounts
H&R springs
everything can be had for less than $900 delivered
simple, reliable and robust

Ditto - drc is great but too expensive to be considered a 'consumable'

Dear Mr. P. Dave,
We thank you for your letter regarding the failure of your DRC.
Unfortunately as the incident occurred at 77mph which is beyond the maximum speed limit for the country to which your car was exported, we are unable to offer any goodwill on this occasion.
Furthermore we will advising the local Polizi of your crime and you will be shot.

Would you rip out
all of the DRC junk completely? e.g central valves etc or just leave them in empty/dry.

DRC parts are relatively inexpensive to find albeit PD appears to have been stung a little on the valve block, I've seen a pair on E-bay for £130 albeit typically there are none there just now. I'd be for repaiting it first beforre ditching and would work out roughly the same as ditching it all and putting coilovers in?

But then the fear of it going wrong again over time or when you do a little swerving

Hampshire Police couldn't be arsed at 77mph

I take that as a personal slur since (unlike some people I could mention) I NEVER use an upper case q, except when talking about a genuine Audi Quattro - I respect what Quattro means.
