Centre air vents

Are the centre air vents powered? The reason I ask is that I often find one pointing upwards and one pointing downwards when I start the car. I'm not sure how this happens. My climate control is set to auto.

Does you wife drive the car? She does that to mine - she hates the air blowing on her face!
But to answer your question - no they're not powered. I can't see how they'd end up like that unless the mechanisms had both worked loose some how.
