H&R springs + New Wheels + Photoshoot for Avant Garde Wheels

Post by 07misanored » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:46 pm

Well guys as some of you know I installed the H&R springs last week (loving them) in preperation for a bit of a stance upgrade. It was time for new tires and as I got looking I decided to sell a few of my other toys to raise runds to buy new wheels at the same time. I have always been a huge fan of simple elegance in wheels and enjoy a little concave as well... So when I saw the the new M550 wheels from Avant Garde I had to have them.

Fitment is aggressive, these are 19 x 9.5 all around and et 40 .... but I knew with this wheel design I would be close on the brake clearance so spacers were going to be a must. I went with a 20mm in front and 25 in back for a final et of 20 in front and 15 in back. This would be comparable to running a 10mm in front on stock wheels and a 15 in back except you get a tiny bit more clearance from rubbing by the tire being on a .5" wider wheel.

The rears fit fine...and some room for flexibility on spacer choice but the fronts are another story. If anyone is remotely considering these wheels on a B7 RS4 you WILL NEED A 20 MM SPACE IN FRONT, NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS. Anything less the back of the caliper is hitting the barrel "hump" and anything more and your spokes are hitting the calipers. Also these wheels have a double valve stem setup and the outward facing one will need to be plugged with something that is flush...not "low profile"... but flush or it will hit the front brakes. Clearances is literally ~3 mm all over on the front brakes.

So far I am very pleased with them and I think the stance is very clean and with stock wheel and tire diameters the ride is still quite good. This is a daily driver with 82,000 miles on it and gets driven hard like it was meant to. The stock size Michelin Pilot Super Sports are hands down the best tire Ive ever driven on..enough said.

So without further delay...here are the pics that were taken by myself on Sunday, for Avant Garde so they could help promote these wheels on something other than an M3...hope I did the RS4 crowd proud. Enjoy!

(Please please please forgive the hood gap and reflectors....I know...I know....they are near the top of the list on things to fix next!)

Nice. I'm surprised that those wheels work so well on your B7. Kudos for bravery.

Yes in the U.S. Indiana specifically. The exhasut is actually a full Magnaflow kit...dual 2.5" downpipes and cat-back with no pre cat and a high flow rear cat. The tips that came on the Magnaflow cat back were not to my liking though so I fitted these after installing. just dual 3.5 slash cut double walls...Ive actually been thinking about changing them again to get them staggered...the 4 straight across is a little BMW ish
