RS4 Saloon 2006 Emission Control System Fault

Post by Bobfin » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:32 pm

Hi there, looking for some advice, was driving my car today and the emission control system light came on, on the dash, flashing to start with now staying on, engine noise changed from the usual tone from the milltek, car felt slightly shuddery and not as smooth as usual, not sure what the problem may be but if you have any idea some advice would be appreciated. Don't want to drive it until i have a good idea of the problem, looks like a visit to Glasgow Audi coming soon !

+1. One of mine went last year as I was conveniently driving past a dealership at about 5.30 in the evening. Exact same symptoms. Rolled her onto the forecourt limp mode, got laughed at and ridiculed for suggesting it might be a coil pack, and quelle surprise, got it back next morning with one new pack and a new lease of life.

I believe the coilpack was a recall or a free replacement?

Cheers Guys, booked into Glasgow Audi on Monday, call service department and told the receptionist that i had been informed by an audi tech that there was a workshop campaign in connection with coil packs, she agreed and said they would be replaced under this campaign FOC. we will wait and see.

The packs themselves don't cost the earth - it's more the Audi workshop fees etc. Only one of mine was changed about 10k ago.

make sure you allocate a couple hours... replacing them isn't hard just theres quite a few of them and you have to disconnect a couple wiring harness to access.
Oh, and the v8 gets hot so they might want to leave it to cool down ;-)

Dropped of the car today to Glasgow Audi 9.30am, was told it wouldn't be ready until after 1-2pm, then received call around 11am to say there was another wiring assembly that required replaced along with the coil pack, didn't have part in stock, wont get car back until Wednesday, not too bad left with a 2012 A4 s-line to get me around courtesy of Audi.

This seems like the problem I had yesterday. When you say the 'emission control system light', which light is that? I had the yellow warning light that is the picture of an engine start flashing for a few seconds but the symptoms were the same as yours. Is this the same light? I'm assuming that my light is the CEL!

Yep - coil pack failure would trip the MIL/CEL as it would manifest as a misfire.
