Blutooth / Ipod Kit for RS4 B7 whats best

Post by Bobfin » Tue Apr 17, 2012 7:51 am

I'm looking to get a bluetooth kit fitted to 2006 B7 RS4, can you get OEM kit fitted to existing MMI or is there a better 3rd party manufacturer that does a retro fit kit, not sure if this is at all possible but if you've had it done could you let me know.

i'd go for the parrot kit, not oem. My RS4 came with bose tv etc, no bluetooth, most importantly for me was the music option, needed to have the ability to play the iPod will all the tunes on it. Parrot kit comes bluetooth, voice activated, charges, plays, superb, cheap to supply and fit and very discreet. Worth checking out.

When i had the oem checked out, loses something quality wise, cannot remember which, but i decided against it. If the loss wasn't an issue there was an alpine kulfatec option (only what i've heard), works, but costly.
hope this helps in your quest.
cheers

I had the OEM bluetooth kit fitted by Hazzydayz and it works very well indeed. I've had no pairing issues with a multitude of phones and all the phonebooks transferred perfectly. I did have a connection issue with an old HTC Desire phone after the software on that phone was updated. It would drop the BT connection every minute or so and reconnect. But for pairing, i've never has any issues. BT audio quality is very good, even when i'm in Sport mode with the Milltek doing what it does best!

For the iPod kit i've got the Alpine/Kufatec combo, again fitted by Hazzydayz. It works perfectly and i'm very happy with it.

If you have ther TV option already fitted then this may not work as the Alpine/Kufatec is coded to use the TV menu. Otherwise it's a great option.

I've still retained tv function (sure this will vanish though thru digital changeover, then i'll be on to audi as i'll see if i can get a warranty element out of it). The Parrot does all the phonebook directory, plays the iPod, pairs two phones simultaneously, (one answered at a time tho) Bose still works superb with no power loss, totally hands free and i think it was all installed for around £230, but i had my road angel installed same time, so probably slightly less. Only issue i have (should be resolved this week), music from the iPod cuts out nav voice, a new cable should resolve this i'm told, fingers crossed. If you use memory sticks, no issue with tunes and nav voice.

got it in both cars, cheap option, quality kit and usability.

Parrot kit is the mki9200

Great piece of kit - had it in my s4 and moved it to the rs4 - my only issue is the harness my installer used means it uses the parrot amp rather than the Bose - however have been told that you can still use the nose amp, just need the right harness, so if anyone can advise on the correct harness I can get it sounding good again.

Beauty of The parrot is that it's Bluetooth to multi handsets at same time, play iPod either by connected lead or Bluetooth audio, takes sd cards or USB memory stick.

I have spoken to 3 installers of the Parrot MK i9200, firstly Halfords, they could supply and fit for £205.00 but don't think the guy understood about the Bose amp set-up. Secondly another installer who had said it would be £250 plus £60 for the Bose amp lead for the unit to work through all the speakers and lastly £350 supplied and fitted fully operational. Read on one of the forums that if you have a little knowledge you can fit yourself, not quite sure i would do this to save £80.00, any thoughts.

Speaking from personal experience, if it's bluetooth and music you're after, a very good solution is going down the route of the swap to the 2010+ RNS-E (the subject of other topics), combined with the Audi OEM bluetooth kit. Instead of an iPod dock / cable, music can then go on 32Gb SD card(s) at £20 a pop for something like 6000 tracks - no need to plug anything in each time as music stays in the car all the time, and everything is controlled on the main unit. You also get the advantage of the new spec RNS-E screen and faster operation, which is a fantastic improvement over the unit fitted to the RS4.

I've just done this and it's great, plus of course it still looks totally standard - new RNS-E bought for £450, then aim to sell old one for at least £300, so total cost to change will be about £150 with SD card for all my music. Granted I had a head start because I already had the Audi bluetooth kit, and these can be quite pricey, so cost wise the Parrot 9200 would be a bit cheaper if you need to do both phone and music, and were happy to live with the extra unit and control on the dash.

I see that there are issues with Parrot music cutting out the navigation - I had this exact same problem on a previous car (Subaru) with factory sat-nav that I fitted a Parrot 9200 into, and it couldn't be resolved so I just had to live with it - hopefully it can be sorted on the RS4 though.

Word of warning to those fitting thinking of having a Parrot fitted though - I'd recommend getting an aftermarket specialist to do it, as although they're pretty straightforward, you'd then be protected if anything ever played up and anything needed dismantling. After I had mine fitted in the Scoob, it started playing up after nearly a year - fitter tried several software updates and eventually replaced the whole thing under warranty, but it still occasionally had a mind of its own at times and would completely freeze. The Audi OEM bluetooth on the other hand has always been perfect.

DALO has got a 2010+ RNS-E which uses SDHC cards, so the cards he uses (and I use) won't be any good to you if you have the "normal" pre-2010 RNS-E as that only works with SD (not SDHC or SDXC) cards.

SD cards are avaliable in sizes up to and including 4GB, but 4GB non-SDHC ones have become really hard to get hold of - most "4GB SD" cards are actually SDHC cards, so you have to read the adverts very, very carefully and specify on your order that it MUST be an SD card and not an SDHC card to give yourself grounds to reject them if they send SDHC ones.
