Looking for some advise...

Post by klauster » Wed Apr 04, 2012 2:46 pm

My car is in with Audi at present, I have a couple of fault codes which they have cleared, but they are saying the car might need a new oil breather valve? Costing near enough £500? Anyone heard of this or had to have one fitted/replaced.

They are saying when they take the oil filler cap off while the car is running they can feel quite abit of suction... like there is a vacuum leak, although saying that they have checked for leaks and can't find anything...

Car runs fine, other than the occasionally slightly higher revs when coming to stationery....

I can only imagine the number of views but lack of response is due to no one else having this issue...

I've been thinking... Do they mean the pcv oil separator?
I didn't think the rs4 had a conventional oil breather but could be wrong.

What are the codes?

Not sure I've got the wrong end of the stick but I thought the crankcase was beg pressure do taking the filler cap off would have suction...

Well I have my car back and all I can say is OMG, what a difference :)))) car idles perfectly now, kick is more than ever and power is better than when I got the car 4 years ago, I have the parts that were replaced over the last couple of visits so will pop some pics up :)

Really really happy, got good will on the repair as well :) £200 was a bargain considering what it's done to the car

Would be interested to know what they replaced Nick and part costs as I may also replace certain parts given the number of miles and age my car is.

Here are some quick pics of the parts I had replaced

And this was described as an Oil Breather Valve by Audi York

A seal has broken on this bit:

This is the spring loaded valve which works via the vacuum (mine was no longer spring loaded)

Did you get a breakdown on parts costs on your invoice?

Just wish Audi put in some one way valves - slightest hiccup and it cripples the car

That part no googles as an oil seperator valve - wonder if it's the valve that allows the oil collects by the triple filter to be released back into the sump.

I wonder whether a faulty one could affect consumption of oil. If it is stopping release back into the sump from the separators and they are full then blow by won't be collected and more burnt which will work its way thorugh the cylinders and exhaust?

I wonder if we all need to follow this treatment path if our cars are doing the raised rev thing. I recently replaced my vacuum solenoid for manifold to the improved version to see if it helps my sticking manifold flaps; although the tech said the problem stil exists, my epc light hasn't come back on yet, but boy do I notice my car running a lot smoother, so that new solenoid has done something. Might be worthwhile changing the airbox solenoid too as a matter of precaution.

Holy thread resurrection Batman! Kay, do you have the part number for the bit you replaced? I'm in the process of sourcing all vacuum solenoid parts and replacing them inlcuding the oil separator, air box, engine mount and manifold even though my car doen't necessarily use the manifold or airbox one anymore. If the system is intact by replacing all then hopefully it will have stronger vacuum readings.
