Has anyone changed their headlight bulbs? I have just had to buy 2 new ones due to flickering when cold.
I hope to change them soon and would appreciate any feedback on what is involved before i start.
Thanks

You may need the ballast unit on the back of the bulb too, My headlights flicker (Xenon's) and on the odd occasion shut down, According to Audi there is a technical update that says new updated bulbs and ballasts are needed at a cost of £1100 for the the lot fitted think I'll wait till they do fail totally.

I changed the bulbs today. Not worth attempting it with the bumper on.
Remove Bumper.
Remove top torx srew from headlight.
Loosen 2 side screw a couple of turns.
Remove headlight, disconnecting the cable.
There is a panel on the rear of the light, 2 x torx screws hold it on, then the buld can be changed.
Reverse of the above.
The headlight will need to be aligned using VAGCOM
The bumper alignment is fiddly, the two adjustable mounts have to be adjusted a number of time until it looks right, removing and replacing the bumper (enough to adjust the mounts) each time.
Total about 2 hours, not rushing about.
The bulbs fitted were identical to these: Philips Xenstart D1S 4300K
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150756558484? ... 340wt_1270 Which i have replaced them with.
Hopefully the flickering will be gone! I will update shortly.

Elsawin documents the process for full in place bulb changes.
Drivers side:
Essentially you need to remove the entire airbox and airfilter housing. Useful if you want to check the airbox power flap at the same time.
- remove air box snorkel (two screw on the bumpe)
- unplug MAF sensor
- Detach hose to secondary air pump.
– Detach vacuum hoses (air box power flap)
– Detach air hose -3- at air mass meter.
– Screw out bolts and detach top section of air cleaner housing.
– Disengage holder for wiring harness at body.
– Detach clip and take out air cleaner housing with air mass meter
Passenger Side
Essentially unmounting the washer fluid and power steering resevoirs
- Unscrew 1 nut and 2 bolts from the resevoirs. (nut is on the side of the washer fluid bottle, one bolt on the power steering and one bolt that is shared between both resevoirs).
– Remove breather hose from top section of washer fluid reservoir.
– Detach top section of washer fluid reservoir and move power steering reservoir to side with hydraulic hoses still attached.
Overall both not too bad but still far too much effort for such essential bulbs.

that is just mad having to remove loads of stuff to replace the bulb.
Though when i worked for BMW the E65 7 series charged 1.5 hours to change the headlamp bulb
