Back in her birthday suit and she's staying!!!

Post by N11LS_J » Thu Jan 12, 2012 4:31 pm

Hi guys

Normally people post various reasons for having to sell their pride n joys, always depressing for both the owners and other enthusiasts to hear, well, I'm not one of them, as I have great news... I have finally managed to negotiate a 'reasonable' insurance deal for my RS, so she is here to stay!!!! :beerchug:

As you know, she was wrapped in white vinyl for a few years now, and whilst i considered selling due to my insurance problems, i decided to de-wrap myself, was a very long a pain staking process, now I know why they quoted me £400 + VAT to remove!!

Anyway, after hours and hours of careful but painful (fingers covered in blisters!) wrap removal, she went from this...

Nothing beats paintwork, honestly, well worth the effort to remove the white, the pearl effect on the Mugello is amazing, the paintwork is immaculate, i have been over it with a magnifying glass trust me, and now I can wash, clay, wax, polish, seal, protect till my heart contents, love it.

As for vinyl wrap... I OFFICIALLY HATE THE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have been tempted to keep the carbon roof but that looks mega mate, always have had a soft spot for Mugello. :jump_clap:

So no blade marks around fiddly areas?
I'm loving the Mug blue on the B7, rare too, ne?
No matter where you go, there you are.

From the pics the blue also accentuate the arches more then white too, even a bit more visually agressive?

Thanks Graeme, I did leave the Roof and Carbon Trimmings on for a while, but to be honest didn't work at all against the silver optics against the Mugello, with Black optics I would definately kept, also, you won't believe how much of a headache and mission it actually was to remove the damned vinyl, I was so p'd with it that I just wanted it all gone!!

You're right in that the Mugello really accentuates the bulges and curves on the RS, didn't realise how 'pumped' the B7 was with the wrap, with he H&R springs and spacers the stance is crazy aggressive :biggrin3:

Appreciate that Nick, i know you agree that nothing beats paintwork

Bam, yep, Mugello on the B7 is quite rare, which I like, it's a slick and highly understated colour IMO, and I was expecting to find something, anything, any kind of mark after the wrap was removed, but I'm still getting over how immaculate it is, god knows how they make the cuts etc, but the paint is totally unmarked, even in the nooks n crannies

Just one more thing to sort now... badges, hmmmm what to do... obviously I had to remove all badges as they were stuck to the vinyl, but now considering de-badging, what do you guys think?

I will put the rings back onto the rear boot though, but with regards to the 'RS4', i'm thinking of leaving these off, saying that there is another problem in that the where the RS4 badges sit on the 2 rear door mouldings, there is a cut out for the badge, so I will have to have something to replace the RS4 with... suggestions? 'Quattro' ? 'V8' ? or shall I just put everything back?

Cheers Victor

Yep H&R springs with DRC Sonny, courtesy of Audi Camberley, I'm sooooo tempted to go coilovers now but with warranty still valid until Nov on the DRC and the way she sits and drives on the H&Rs is there even any point?!
Planted yet very comfortable as it is too, only considered after seeing the KWs up for sale in classifieds recently

That is excellent news, I bet you were sooo happy when you found the paintwork was unaffected. It does look great in Mugello too.

re badges, you could always put them back but use (or make) 'non-red' versions -? (Carbon, Black, Grey or try to match the Blue...)

Anyway, looking good now..

Not a big fan of the V8 badges on the wings, but if V8 fitted into the gaps that would look quite smart on a de-badged car.
