My google alert for "NEW AUDI RS4" has been producing a few links recently. They're all reporting the same event; a prototype 2013(?) Audi RS4 Avant has been spied testing at the Nurburgring.

The blistered wheel arches, massive brakes, large alloy wheels and twin oval exhausts are the evidence for claiming it's the next RS4. On some of the shots you can just about make out the honeycomb radiator grill, which I believe is only used for the RS models?

The articles suggest that the next RS4 will be Avant-only, and then go on to speculate about which engine will be under the hood;
- the 4.2 from the RS5, or
- the twin turbo 4.0 V8 from the new S7 & S8 (http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/11 ... auto_shows)

If that really is a new RS4 in testing right at the ring, then how close is it to production?
Considering it's fall of 2011 now, a 2013 launch seems like a long way into the future to me...

Looks good, still prefer the B7 shape by far though, never been keen on the B8, too rakish at the back.

That 4.0 turbo would be the boy mind, give the new RS4 the same awsome tuning potential as the current RS6

X2..... much easier to wrangle BHP out of a turbo set up!

I'd expect the turbo, should eek out better co2/mpg

Car Magazine thinks it'll be the RS5's 4.2 naturally aspirated 444bhp unit, and not the twin turbo:

Good for proud B7 RS4 owners as it won't make our motors look too long in the tooth. Bad for true progress?
