Rough running when cold

Post by spikeyboy101 » Sat Sep 17, 2011 11:57 pm

Hi guys,

My car has been running a bit rough when cold - spoke to Audi about it when i had the coil packs done, but typically of Tonbridge Audi they wernt keen on looking at the software version on the car or doing the update to SW0090

Now the temps are dropping a bit the rough running is worse, so going to speak to Tonbridge Audi again and instist it is done, however a couple of questions:

1) is this done free by Audi or is there a charge normally ?
2) Going to be getting a AMD remap in a couple of weeks (once the Milly is in stock) will the AMD remap cure the rough running when cold, or do i still need the SW0090 update, and to be done prior to the AMD map ?

Finally when speaking to AMD about their map they said it doesnt as standard remove the torque limit in gears 1, 2 and 3 but they can remove if i wish, however they said it could damage the gearbox - should i have any fear it will damage the gearbox ? or is it safe to have the torque limits removed ?

Thanks guys.

Spikey,
100% get the software update before the remap as the update will clear your map back to stock.

Audi will charge you for anything.

Not sure if the remap will cure the rough running.

Had my map for 6 weeks with no torque limiter and no issues as yet.

Good luck mate.

You normally have to give an "acceptable reason" to get the 0090 SW update - smoky starts and rough running when cold are usually the "magic words".

It's not a recall (those are only for safety issues and organised through VOSA http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recall ... sp?tx=VOSA), and it's not even a Workshop Campaign as it's an "on request" free upgrade - provided certain conditions are met.

Too rich a mixture until oil temp reaches 60 degrees, then you'll find it runs smoother so I would suspect a mixture program associated with the engine rev limiter protection program. I also notice my fuel gauge improves marginally after this phase.

Also try a injector cleaner such as Redex or Wynns, give the car a service (if it needs it) also inspect the air filter.

The AMD remap I am guessing will be a generic remap and not a custom one (could be wrong).
