Hey guys. Sorry for another oil question but just wondered what would be best to top up with and use?
Costco have both at very good value. i have always mobil 1 in my past cars but just wondered what audi use?
Had a look around and there appears to be lots of conflicting advise on oil.
in the oil guide on here it suggest edge, is that the general consensus on here?

many thanks

Castrol is what is normally used by Audi franchise but only because Castrol pay for it to be that way. Some franchises use Mobil and some even Shell.

What is important is that it whatever brand is used is that it is VW504.00 / 507.00 type approved and is tha same as wheta is in already. Castrol Edge can also be found as SLX III Powerflow.

Thanks for the quick reply. might be worth checking with the dealership first to see what they used. only had the car 4 weeks and was serviced just before i picked it up.

SLX powerflow? Is that a untam product PG? Mines due an inbetweenie oil service and pondering what to use? Mine is on annual service rather than longlife (took it off at last service) but it will be due its annual in the coming months (mental note must check lol) so dont really want to be emptying 120+ worth of oil thats not been in long

I strongly doubt the dealer will have used mobil so i would top up with castrol if i was in your position,or just give them a call,i think you will find most dealers just put bogo standard longlife 111 in RS4s ie the cheaper quantum castrol based but not badged product. That was what i was told before mine last went in,i had to specify castrol as my preference but the quantum meets the spec and is far cheaper so maybe i was daft!!

From my understanding (gained from this forum), the castrol edge does have a updated/advanced formula compared to the others. Having said that , the others (mobil 1, shell, fuchs etc of the same vw 504/507 spec), are sufficient for these cars. Using the more advanced castrol would only benefit u if u tended not to change ur oil as frequently as say yearly/5k miles and did a lot of short journeys or lots of track days. Sonny does lots of track days but he changes his oil atleast yearly and thus has been fine with the non castrol brands. If u want the scientific explanation for why/how the castrol edge has the edge, I can try finding the necessary info. (but I can't say if that info is factual or not).
