Bad feeling...

Post by B7RSX » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:56 am

Got a feeling someone is going to TRY stealing my RS4.

Yesterday had some guy knock on my door... never seen him before.
I answered and he asked if the car is mine...(pointing at it as it was parked 2doors up) i said yes and he said couple of kids kicked a footy onto the car and that he checked and there was no damage. I said where he said the wing but he checked and its fine. I said thank you very much to him but asked him mate where you from? as in where does he live. He said up the road on the left hand side...
I've never seen the guy before...i've lived at this address for 25 years so i know he doesn't live on my road.
As soon as i asked that he answered and then proceeded to say the kids were from the bottom of the road... i said well ok cheers for letting me know. And walked off down the road. I came inside and thought.... hmmmm... Naaaa cant be.

Now what has really got me is that when my brother came home later our neighbour 2 doors up came over and said to him a guy was knocked on her door and asked about the RS. She said to him deliberatly she doesnt know and then watched him from inside go knock on 2 other doors just to ask eventually coming to mine.
Anyone know of or heard of these tactics before? I know they've sussed out where and who owns the car now...

BUT my attitude is... im ready for them!
Car is immobilized every night, keys are with me and me and my brother are ready if anything does happen because lets be honest highly highly likely it might just!

Our motors are sh*t hot for it but all i can say.. me being me is... bring it!

It does sound a bit suspect, where you from?

I've lost count the amount of times I've driven past my road and diverted round the block due to a suspect looking car behind me!

What a sad world we live in.

Definitely contact your local police station or Safer Neighbourhoods team. Also contact your neighbours to see if they recognised the man or got any details about the car he may have been in.

It sounds suspicious. Better safe than sorry.

If it's pre meditated (ie you have a baseball bat besides your bed) then you're buggered if you do anything. Also if you chase them 200 yards and cave their skulls in then the same applies. If it's instinctive then crack on. :-)

"depends"
The key bit is "reasonable force for self defence".
Basically, reasonable means anything in proportion to the perceived threat.
So somebody breaks in and you hit em with a frying pan you've been using to cook with would be probably reasonable.

As above though, you can't be "prepared" for an attack. So whilst you could use a baseball bat you'd need to be careful on the story.
"I was in the garage and heard a noise and picked up the baseball bat that I keep there" would be probably ok
"I heard a noise and grabbed the baseball bat from under my bed" -harder to argue
"I heard a noise and grabbed the bat from next to my bed"... onto a loser there.

There other part is you can only defend yourself when you are actually in danger.
Two high profile cases being:
- Tony Martin. Convicted of murder after he shot a burglar dead. The key point on this (apart from sitting waiting with a loaded firearm) is that he shot them in the back whilst they were running away. There's no way you can argue it was self defence as no danger. He had to take aim and fire multiple times.
Didn't help that in court he said he'd do it again no problem.

- Bloke who's house got broken into, family tied up but he managed to escape, scare them out the door to which his brother and extended family who lived close by heard the noise and they chased the intruders down the street, catching one and beating him to a pulp with cricket bat.
This was originally being handled as attempted murder however after alot of public outcry it was dismissed (I don't know if the charges were dropped or reduced). Even though no perceived danger I believe the argument of what the guy had just gone through would have prevented reasonable thoughts at the time. However he was very lucky not to get sent down for what he did.

Personally the best defence is an old one - a feck off big dog.

Im from Bedfordshire... Car is parked on the road..

I've managed to speak to my neighbour who answered the door to him and she confirmed he knocked on 3doors after knocking on hers. She told him straight that she doesnt know who's car it is and whats it to do with him anyway.

Just had a policeman round to take a statement for work related incident and ive told him about it. Took info and said he'll log it but to be honest thats all thats going to happen. There wont be extra patrols or bobbies walking the area... no chance with this current climate. Way i see it is that i've got to be extra cautious from now on.

Yep UK laws.. can't even touch a burglar without getting arrested before he does! But i couldnt care less to be honest! I'd make sure they won't ever consider stepping inside anyones house ever again! :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Cars going into bodyshop for couple of days im getting Rear diffuser sprayed in gloss black so that shoud take the heat off things if someone is considering trying something. When its back i'll be alert 24/7. :sekret:

Hmmm.. I havent got a garage but i've got the baseball bat and my brothers got hockey stick under/next to our beds. What story should be said for that? lol

But yeah in the heat of the moment one don't consider stuff like that... They just see red and the story of self defence goes right out the window.

What a sad world we live in.

as above..im always on the look..sad sad world..id rather not put my family in danger

i was actually thinking of getting a separate lock up garage to house the car so as not to be linked to my house..we shouldnt have to live our lives like this!

It's a sad state of affairs really. I've did the long way home thing incase being followed. I hide my keys every night i go to bed!! I'm at work now and my wife still doesn't know where i put the keys. lol.

When i go to work i reverse my old banger up to the front of the garage door. It has a slow puncture so i don't fix it cos i know it would make it more difficult to move should thieves try and get the Audi from the garage.

Maybe unplug something under the bonnet or even under the dash that is easy to get to just untill thing settle down a bit. Not a permanent solution but it may put your mind at rest for the timebeing and save you getting time for planting a baseball bat into someones head. lol

Maybe install a security light and a cam/webcam outside your property.
This kit is getting pretty cheap these days.
