Sport seats to bucket seats and VCDS

Post by mutantfatcat » Wed Jul 13, 2011 1:09 pm

Does any body know the correct coding needed in VCDS when replacing the sport seats with bucket seats. I can't find a way of coding out the seat airbags or making the sports button operate the bolsters.

Thanks in advance!

It is probably in the coding for the seats or somewhere - where are you looking & can you post your codes & I will have a look at mine & see if we can see a differnce ?

The sport button operating the bolsters is done from the DIS, not sure if it needs to be enabled with VCDS first though?

I can have a look at mine and post the results here later today.

His car came with std seats so that option won't be in his DIS, so he is hoping to recode to enable the active buckets via the DIS.

Excellent - do you know if the "active" sports seat option kicked in ?

Thanks so much guys for you responses.

I sorted the seats airbags problems by changing the following code in the Airbags module to 0431622 from 0434622 (software coding field).

After doing this, the airbag warning indicator is no longer lit and no faults are stored.

Next I went to Instuments/Adaptation and selected Additional Features in the dropdown tab. I then changed the Stored Value to 31302 from 31300.

This now allows the Sports mode/Sports seats feature to be displayed in the DIS menu.

However with this feature selected, pressing the Sports button still doesn't inflate the bolsters. So I guess I must still be missing something. All features on the seat itself work fine btw.

Much appreciated guys!

IIRC isn't there a jumper that needs removing/or adding on the loom/plug for the drivers seat?
I may be wrong/confused/drunk.

Ah, I think some bucket seats do not have the yellow plug fitted to their looms. If that's the case, I believe there is some sort of plug which has to be connected to the yellow socket on the car loom. This basically contains some sort of end-of-line resistor that 'fools' the airbag module into thinking airbags are still fitted, thus preventing a lit MIL. This is applicable to both driver and passenger seats.

There is also some sort of plug/socket/adapter that is supposed to be attached to the yellow plug on the sport seats one removed from the car. I think this is simply some sort of shorting link to keep all airbag connections at the same potential to avoid accidental deployment due to external influences such as static.

Fortunately my buckets have the yellow plug on the loom and despite not fitting the adapters to my sport seats, the airbags have stayed inside the seats........so far. :biggrin2:

Glad you got it sorted, and you are clearly an expert on this now - but aren't the buckets lacking in airbags so provided the coding/ecu is happy then I can't see you having any problems ?

Haha......expert! Very far from it!
Imagine a chimp put behind a computer and randomly pressing things until the warning lights go out!

I still can't get the bolsters to inflate with the sport button pressed, but I can live with that.

The problem was that the coding was wrong/ecu unhappy when I simply swapped the seats over. The airbag warning stayed lit as there were faults relating to airbag igniters (or lack of) and also the passenger seat occupancy switch.

Anyway, no problems so far.......
